$60/mo for 200Gb HD - ripoff?

My host has quoted me $60/mo for an additional 200Gb IDE HD. Is $720 per year for a drive that's probably worth $120 a rip off? :winkwink: They also charge $16 setup...

You might ask them if they have a one-time fee you can pay instead.

We usually offer a one-time or a per month option. If the customer plans on sticking around, the one-time fee will always be the better option.

.. a 200gb drive goes for about $60 nowadays anyway.

Yeah, I'll do that, but first I've asked them to explain why it's so expensive.

If they still want to charge me $60/mo then this customer may not be planning on sticking around for much longer. :)

Looks like I was being generous, I checked my local supplier and 200Gb IDE models cost around that. With this host being quite large I am sure they get a much better price.

How can they justify charging me more per month than it cost to purchase outright?

Offer has been dropped to $50/mo

It's an additional standalone 200Gb IDE HD. Nothing more.

If I asked for a RAID setup then I'd probably be paying $150 a month :1orglaugh
