which anti-virus, firewall, spyware blocker to use?

Just formatted my computer and ready for some protection :Graucho

i know anti-virus issue has been brought up before but I need to make sure it won't conflict with firewall, etc... what programs are you using?

so far I am thinking AVG and ZoneAlarm.. not sure which spyware blocker tho... geez you need 10 programs to protect your poor computer nowadays :disgust

i have DrWeb. I don't know if it is good or bad.

Mac OSX is all you need.

I do run AVG on our old Win machines, though. Doesn't always help.

Kaspersky is pretty good..I hear also Panda too

ZoneAlarmPro for sure for firewall. Can't get better than that. It can be annoying at times because it pervents sites from loading when it's a known spyware site. Then you have the choice to either allow it or leave it. If you can get a discount on the whole thing, I would take the ZoneAlarm Security Suite.

If not, AVG for antivirus. It's free and it's one of the best.

Am I allowed to put my spyware blocker in my signature? Don't want to break any rules here.

NewbieNudes 10-04-2006 07:42 PM

windows defender (used to be called MS antispyware)

Works a dream.

Missie 10-04-2006 07:46 PM

Yeah Windows defender... they were intimidated by I think it was 180Solutions quite a while back and stopped detecting their programs. I'm not sure if they do now or not. I have it on my computer as extra security because I don't think one program will ever catch it all, but I sure as hell wouldn't rely on just that one.

virus scanner: NOD32
Spyware: Spysweeper and Adaware
Firewall: none (my router has a firewall, but it's not enabled)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Missie - yes, you can put whatever you want in your sig as long as it follows "the rules" ;-)

How long have you had it? I just purchased it for my personal computer. It seems to be alright so far. I've got the geeksquad as my backup though just in case !:1orglaugh

OS X does the job for me.
