Any Coin Collectors Here?

I just acquired a bunch of old coins, some dating back to the late 1800's.

I got nickels, pennies, silver pennies, and a bunch more, anybody here know their old coins, please hit me up...

Alot of factors come into play when you are talking about coins...

Rarity, Mint, Condition, and Demand.

I would suggest picking up a book and doing a little research then any coins you think may be worth something you should send off and have them appraised and graded. This service will cost you and the coins will be in the mail so take whatever cautions to keep them safe. Also I would stay clear of coin dealers because they will only offer 30-50% of the coins value where a collector (ebay and other places) will offer 90-120% of the coins value.

Remember, even the slightest scratch can decrease a coins value by thousands.

I only collect ANA/NGC certified coins MS63+, pre 1900's, Silver Dollars (Morgans preferred), some St. Gauden's $20 (Double Eagle) Gold pieces etc... I also collect some fractional cent paper money.

Bag marks and discoloration raise the value, as it indicates the coin has never been cleaned. Cleaned coins wear away at the coin relief, and devalues a coin. Bright & Shiny isn't always best. The old, browning coins have a higher collectable value.

OMG!

Do you accept epass?

Also, be sure not to clean them in any way.

I used to collect when I was young. Fun hobby but its hard to get good buys unless you go to some estate sales where the heirs don't know what they have.

First you have to know the condition of the coins. Two people owning the same coin but one being in POOR condition and worth less than $1 and one being in MS-70 condition can be worth thousands.

Second you fail to mention an mint marks. There's HUGE differnce in vaule of coins with nothing a D or and S on them. With S being the most valuable in most cases.

I used to collect coins from other currencies. Too bad no antique ones for me.

shekinah 10-03-2006 09:51 PM

I had old coins before but didn't know where i put it.. unless mom got it and exchanged it for bucks.. The only coin left was a token from the arcade.

E$_manager 10-04-2006 08:31 AM

Is it English coins?

ADL Colin 10-05-2006 07:49 AM

I collected when i was a kid.

I have been considering collecting ancient coins and coins of historical interest to me (say, coins with "Peter the Great"). Might get around to it.
