North Korea has 700,000 troops

No wonder the USA hasn't done jack shit to these guys.. they wouldn't just roll over.

Quote:

North Korea continues to position forces into the area just north of the DMZ? in a position to threaten Combined Forces Command and all of Seoul with little warning. Seventy percent of their active force, including approximately 700,000 troops, over 8,000 artillery systems, and 2,000 tanks, is postured within 90 miles of the Demilitarized Zone.

mike217 10-03-2006 07:31 AM

The US has not done anything because we are too busy fighting wars for other countries. 700,000 troops aint shit. North Korea would be off the map if we wanted it to be. Too much damn diplomacy.

crockett 10-03-2006 07:34 AM

They have 700 thousand troops and no way to transport them.

timberlands 10-03-2006 07:35 AM

lol thats what you think..

Quote:

Currently, there are 499,000 active duty Army troops, backed up by 700,000 National Guard and Army reservists. That's a third less than when the U.S. fought its last big war in the Persian Gulf, in 1991;
130,000 Army troops are in Iraq.
they have just as much military power as we do in most ways.

KRL 10-03-2006 07:42 AM

All dictatorships eventually fail. History has proven that over and over. NK will eventually fail also.

Yea so how are they going to get them anywhere in large numbers? Every warship or sub they have would be destroyed within 24 hours of any attqack that forced a US responce.

For China it would be the same.. both countries have massive amounts of troops but can't come close to matching the US on the naval battlefeild or in the air.

Our govt knows we can't match countries like that when it comes to active troops unless their was a draft. That's why we have so much air and naval power.

And 100,00 Rifles between them.. The relationship and proximity to China is the issue.

They can all run across that big mine field, I'm sure a few will make it through :)

Why 10-03-2006 08:01 AM

we would mop the floor with them from a boat, while playing poker. US still has the biggest and best equiped navy in the world.

MarkMan 10-03-2006 08:23 AM

well the US got 2.2 million troops ready for war at any time.

they only use about 400k on iraq and Afghanistan right now..

they also got the most sophisticated and powerful equipment on the planet .. they don't use it right now .. not to give a the enemies/friends .. a clue , of what to steal

if they don't know you have it, they can't steal it

Militarily, the US could wipe out their whole military and nuclear program before North Korea would have a chance to shoot their aa guns into a dark sky hoping to hit a plane. Just like in Iraq, the issue isn't whether the US can walk over the top of them, it's everything else that comes after they do that, and who they upset in the process.

NK is becoming more of a useless burden to China. I think even China is starting to see that.

More imporantly is the US even with the BS in Iraq still has many allies that would be affected by a war with NK or China. So it wouldn't just be the US fighting China or NK.

So they really wouldn't have a chance even if both China and NK joined forces.

they cant attack until all the rice paddies freeze over in the winter. Thier tanks dont float.

I lived within thier artillery range of the DMZ for a year, and was not worried at all.

Just remember the stealth bomber was built in the 50's and only came to light in the 90's. So you really think their aren't quite a few cool toys hidden away somewhere?

We have planes that can shut down entire power grids from the air, they were used in Iraq but barely heard mention of it. When they used it then, it was reported that they didn't even want to use them in Iraq because the military didn't want to let the cat out of the bag.

Actually I do - the concept just struck me as funny - I think it was the way the guy worded it.

700k troops are just what they have as active.

"North Korea has organized a grand total of seven million men and women into reserve units. Reserve Military Training Unit, Worker-Peasant Militia, and the Young Red Guards make up most of the number."

So, they do have a good number of trained people to fight, which is very scary. 7 MILLION. That's more than the population of my province, Quebec.

So what are they going to feed them? They can't even feed their people now. Do you have any idea how many people are dieing there everyday due to no food?

What are they going to fight with? Rakes and hoes? You really think those starving worker-peasants are going to fight any better than the trained solders in Iraq did?

I'm willing to bet they don't like their own govt any more than we do. No one likes their country to be invaded but I also can't think of too many people that enjoy starving to death due to govt corruption.

LOL - more useless propoganda

When I was in Kunsan, South Korea, there were NK defectors coming over all the time.

They complained they were starving and their 'war-machines' were antiquated 1950's Russian crapmobiles.

who is "you guys" no one says it would be cake walk but we wouldn't likely invade them.. We would lob missiles and drop bombs on them, they could save the flowers for the graves.

I've never supported the war in Iraq or Bush, but I've always felt something should be done about both Iran and North Korea. I also wouldn't want to go to war with either under Bush, because he's an idiot.

However neither NK or Iran should be aloud to have nuclear weapons. With NK it's unlikely that we will do anything about it and in reality they probably aren't much of a real threat at this point.

The threat comes when their dictatorship finally fails. Then who gets to put their finger on the button or who would they be sold to on the black market?

Their current leader is too much in love with himself to likely do anything to get his ass killed. That and he's an attention whore.

However Iran must be stopped at all costs IMO. Iran is a country led not only by a crazy man but also as a religious dictatorship. That is a very scary combo.

NK is the perfect target as far as waring without troops goes.

No countries to overfly.
We could station the ships right off the coast and begin a systematic extermination.

Right now we would not do anything because of China.
But if NK makes the first move it would be like shooting fish in a barrell without ever having our troops set foot on their soil.

Plus I really doubt China would jepordize it's new found global wealth over a shitstain like NK.

Sure but Rome lasted about 1000 years. 2000 years if you count the Byzantine Empire.

The demographics and freeing of markets point toward the Far East in the long run.
So the US has maybe another 100-200 years on top. So what?

wdsguy 10-03-2006 11:04 AM

a couple nukes would take care of that.

ADL Colin 10-03-2006 11:06 AM

Counting the number of troops doesn't even make a good first approximation of military strength. This is 2006. How many troops is a tank worth? How many troops is a stealth bomber worth? how much is air superiority worth?
