Online Gambling is OVER for U.S.

Wow the party is over for Americans...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20061002/...HBhBHNlYwM5NjQ

Now Americans can get back to what the internet was intended... masturbation.

ry0t 10-03-2006 06:18 AM

I wonder if anyone made a killing with partypoker stock.

European Lee 10-03-2006 06:23 AM

Andy,

I dont think it is bro, it just means that these gaming companies need to look at alternate revenue streams, such as dialers or phone billing :)

Regards,

Lee

In the newspaper today it said the law was pretty water tight and that a laywer would find it difficult to get round it, but yea, i agree, it is not over yet.

Zebra 10-03-2006 06:33 AM

Tons of digital currencies and foreign countries that people can get accounts in if they REALLY want to gamble. They didn't kill it, just made people go about doing it different.
I would hate to be owning PartyPoker stock right now though.

AndyA 10-03-2006 06:37 AM

Lee,

Your probably right they always find a way to get around these kind of things;-)
I just want Americans to get back to what the internet was intended...

TSGlider 10-03-2006 06:46 AM

The online gambling community in the U.S. was no match for the gaming lobby in Washington. Deep deep pockets there from Vegas to Atlantic City to the native american-owned casinos in Connecticut.

Validus 10-03-2006 06:48 AM

Is it really possible to stop Americans from gambling online?

Is it likely that the US government will issue its own online licenses?

AndyA 10-03-2006 06:54 AM

Basically it's that BILLIONS in potential taxes that were lost to overseas companies and the US wants those dollars.

AndyA 10-03-2006 06:55 AM

and the Casino lobby is HUGE

Klen 10-03-2006 06:57 AM

This is the end...my darling friend...Well let's make epassporte casino/sportsbook and then noone can know do you gambling beacuse epassporte is not in Usa.

Antonio 10-03-2006 07:10 AM

how long did the prohobition last? did it stop people from drinking? few years from now it will be legalised and taxed!

Klen 10-03-2006 07:35 AM

Will see about that.

KRL 10-03-2006 07:38 AM

Something not mentioned in the news is that the new law also gives the government the right to order ISP's to block access to offshore gambling web sites.

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned much, since it opens the door for other sites to be blocked in the future.

Kevsh 10-03-2006 07:45 AM

Once again, the public gets screwed by corporate interests! Now all those gambling-addicted freaks down there will either move to Canada, the Caribbean or Las Vegas haha

MarkMan 10-03-2006 07:58 AM

well.. Encrypted VPNs will start showing up more offend on searches..

3rd party E-Currencies will be used more offend.. man this is scary for the US gov..

i started to think.. this can get sooo bad for the US gov.. they will probably loose the little control they do have of the Internet right now.

E$_manager 10-03-2006 08:12 AM

I still can't beleve it. May be in a time it will be back again?

I did mention that in another thread, and even put it in bold .... but that was coming from me, so .... :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

Once that technology is well in place, nothing stops them from ....

:(

vod 10-03-2006 08:48 AM

I'm sure that over time the results will be allowed and controled more with some taxes...

If I presented this to Bush, it would work.

run an online casino/betting from with-in the us and pay taxes, but only take us bets and only payout us residents... pay state taxes in the company based state...

the concern for the Federal goverment to do this is coming from brick and mortor casino's from vegas who are watching the money go online.

it will come down to control and taxes before it's legally allowed

Dirty Dane 10-03-2006 08:52 AM

No more losing money. Its all over :Oh crap
