The problem is that the hardcore players and pros no how to get around this, however it may stop the newbie players from entering the field. This is bad for pro players (at least lower tier pro players) because they make most of their money of the less knowledgable players. Of course there will still be the guys that just keep losing and want to play anyway, but the newbie who sits at the 2/4 or 3/6 table online for the first time because he is the king of his home poker game may become less frequent.

Guys I know who do this tell me that the golden age was a few years ago, right when the poker shows hit cable. The online sites where flooded with players who had NO CLUE about strategy and odds. It was pretty easy for a knowledgable player to exploit this.

I actually considered pursuing a career in online poker, I chose porn instead. Man am I glad I did:) .

Oh well.

The cheese moved. You just gotta adjust, and find other cheese somewhere else.

I'd be curious to know what's going to happen with all the TV shows where you can win your entry. That all of a sudden got more complicated. Are they going to stake out all the WPT events in the USA and arrest every American player that won their entry, or will the events themself stop promoting them on air and announcing who got in on a $2 wager?

Should be interesting to see how it all plays out.

not quite true

they lost 50 million people from whom they profitted...

all the professionals will come around these rules but all the people they were making money on beating will not be around... at least not in the same amount.

gecko 10-02-2006 12:37 PM

they'll just move onto real tables if they're serious

As far as I can tell its no 'more' illegal to gamble online than it was before - just the CCs and banks cant proccess - Is that correct?

Nor can you use use checks or electronic fund transfers.

k0nr4d 10-02-2006 01:57 PM

All you gotta do is use an offshore biller...

DamageX 10-02-2006 01:59 PM

Technically no one lost their job, since Internet gambling was already illegal.

madawgz 10-02-2006 02:02 PM

all the fishies are gone :(

NOTR 10-02-2006 02:11 PM

They are already processing offshore, been decades since most used USA based processing. No way around this for players who have USA based credit cards, they won't go out of their way and buy offshore credit cards, or use ACH or some other form of payment.

dunefield 10-02-2006 02:45 PM

Couldn't you just open an offshore bank account?

888 are saying they are blocking all US players based on IP and address on file.

If all the big companies go that way then it is going to be pretty difficult....

Vitasoy 10-02-2006 06:19 PM

They'll find a way around it. Or go play in person
