what's your favorite western or war movie?

The wife and kid are traveling for two weeks. I am building a list of dvd's to rent for undisturbed viewing.

What are your favorite westerns or war movies? I used to watch these every weekend as a kid and want to have some fun here. Here is a partial list of what I'm considering:

The Great Escape
The Guns of Navarone
Rio Bravo
The Magnificent Seven
Jeremiah Johnson
Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
The Longest Day
Anzio
Patton
In Harm's Way

What else do you recommend?

Thanks,
-arvan

My favourite war film is called "The Nuking of Mecca", but it hasn't been released yet. Not for another 10 years anyway.

I'm assuming you're classifying it as a war movie. The confrontations between Zoolander and Hansel were epic. :1orglaugh

This thread cannot go any further without mentioning Peckinpah's "The Wild Bunch".

some of his other westerns are incredible too:

"Ride the high country"
"Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid"

"Wild Bunch" set the standard though by which others are judged.

Just saw "The Proposition" and liked that - western with an aussie accent.

One Western I haven't seen mentioned is "Silverado" and that's definitely a great movie and worth checking out.

Just saw that the other day, pretty cool, especially after seeing the Kill Bill movies, the influence is very obvious.

Need to see the Good the Bad and the Ugly now.

My choices of best War Movie have been mentioned, (Patton & Longest Day)

As for western, no one has mentioned "the Duke's" academy award winning performance in "True Grit"????
