Ok, my common sense is kicking me as I write this, telling me to accept the changeless and save face. It's telling me it is important to keep with the status quo, to keep yourself untouchable, to "go with the flow". However, something else inside is screaming to make a statement, and frankly, i think someone has to say something at some point, and if it is I who has to be a martyr for it, then so be it.
Being new to this industry, I have read tutorial after article after opinion about this business, and all of them have said time and time again that posting to boards is a valuable avenue to pursue knowledge and acquire valuable contacts that would benefit you to no end. Seeing this, i had high hopes for GFY, which was probably a mistake.
All i've really seen is frightened webmasters eager to squash any competition and egotistical smut peddlers who think the world of themselves because, most likely, they have found ONE thing in their pitiful little lives to be successful in.
I will not name names, but through a month of lurking and two weeks of posting, i have assembled a shit list long enough to impress the Silicon Valley unemployed.

The point of all this is to inform EVERYONE that you were new at some point, you had a question at some point, you did'nt know jack shit at some point, in fact, you are STILL new, at all times. For you to sit on your porn-throne and judge and point and snicker and plot is not some deadly tool to scare the new people away. Yes, for some, it may tend to point them away from the industry, to run cowering in fear of the competition. I can assure you, however, that the newbies that do have what it takes to make it WILL remember you, and you can be certain that at some point in the future that will be very disadvantageous for your business. Perhaps it's me I'm referring to, perhaps not, maybe it's some other newbie that several 'experienced' webmasters have spat on, only time will tell.

I do need to stress that this post is based on my overall experience with this board, not just my previous posts. Yes, i am sticking up for everyone, and not just the newbies.

Anyway, to everyone who does'nt feel attacked and offended by this post, keep your head up and persist, this will get you rewards in any business, even porn.

I know what i'm doing here, and if i get banned or shunned for it, then so be it, but i have made my point.

GFY is not a newbie help board

it is, at best, an informal hangout. More often, it is loaded with insults - and that is why it is so popular! It is the online equivelent of a locker room, water cooler, cafeteria, or coffee shop bitchfest during the work day.

There are so many boards that will be much more productive to someone starting out than GFY. And many other boards are similar - I would not send a newbie to the Netpond Main board, the Adult Net Surprise Main board, etc etc Most of the these boards have no patience for newcommers - and that is why there is such a plethora of newbie boards today.

Just because it is a BBS you should not expect a warm welcome and a helping hand.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I think anyone who gets bent about what's said on a board with a friendly name like GO FUCK YOURSELF is probably going to have a hard time in anything.

Just accept it. New people get ragged on most of the time. It's happened in every single semi-organized gathering since time began.

Sure, Steve, it's very easy in retrospect to call GFY for what it is, and i understand this, I'm sure a lot of other people do too. I was'nt speaking in reference to bad experiences of newbies, I was referring to courtesy on a general level. If that is the case, and a newbie does'nt know it, then simply direct them there. Simple as that, speaking in context.

At some point you must learn that when you have a deep and engaging thought you cannot control the world into accepting and glorifying your genius. If you don't accept this reality you will inevitably fall into a fit of dementia trying to 'educate' everyone and getting nowhere.
All in due time, that's the only thing I can say to those who wish for recognition. It will come to you if you are prepared for it's coming, and due it's glory. All you can do in the mean time is better yourself for receiving it in whatever form it takes. If you are deserving it will be known, but you cannot force it. Anger begets anger, so your violent approach is only going to result in a deep malignity towards you.

Hey I'm pretty new here -- and I expected no fucking parade. I sit and mostly laugh (this board really is good entertainment) -- but some of the things I've read here are invaluable.

Grow up learn and take what you can -- don't expect people to hand you shit on a silver platter.

borrowed some balls and started posting.

if you're whining because you were/are being treated poorly, or are upset about how others are being treated, smoke a bowl, have a beer, and deal with it. Most people are going to be a bit more antagonistic and patronizing online than they will in 'real life'. Again, the name of the board should have given you an indication.

Online flame wars have existed since before the web came to be, i can show you archives of some of my own from '82. Part of life now, either come to terms with it, or, well, don't.

What field do you think you can get into and not be razzed by your elders? The military? Construction? Trucking? Medical? Mining? You name it. Whatever field you get into, when you start out, you're gonna get shat on. That's one of the ways the system weeds out the weak. If you can't handle it you should consider a job at the DMV.

Some of the established folks on this board are the military equivalent of drill sargents. They will work you're ass into the ground. But you'll only get respect if you pull yourself up from your bootstraps and fight to get up to the top of the industry. I'd much rather work with someone that's fought a few battles and had their share of hard knocks than someone who at the first sign of emotional or physical discomfort starts bitching about the work conditions.

The folks that have been around a while and are making money deserve respect. Whether they treat you like shit or not. The people at the top have the advantage of being able to shit on the folks below them. It's one of the perks of being at the top. Unless you want more turds directed in your way you should consider what they have to offer vs yourself before you go off. It's easy to say you're gonna build an adult empire but some of these folks have gone much futher than words and done so.

So take what wisdom they hand you and use it as best you can. And maybe with time and luck you'll have the ability laugh at the errors of so many more newbies to come. You'll watch them as they repeat all the previous errors that have been so documented but not understood.

And regardless of whether you all agree or disagree you can go fuck yourselves.

What happend to people lurking for a couple of months to get a clue and then start posting.

I remember when I was a newbee and this goes for most people we didnt wine about how unfair this crap is. I know I myself quietly studied on my own and got to where I am now without asking people to feel sorry for me.... basically learn on your own this isnt a school where you will get pampered

Respect isn't earned by the amount of money someone makes, or that they're at the top of the game. Have more respect for yourself then to believe that shitty nonsense crap.
