SD, are you sure the gator install was him? It may be the redirect service he is using... welcome.to I know sometimes redirect services do this crap. cjb.net does the same thing.

personally I don't care, he posted the link he takes responsibility for it.

I hate lame assed people who never stand up and take a stand on anything and always think it's someone else's fault.

GTS Mark 06-28-2002 01:40 PM

Yep, I concur. A banning is in order

DH

LoveAsianChicks 06-28-2002 01:41 PM

use netscape - nothing auto-installs.
Serious everyone uses IE so millions of people finding exploits and whatnot.

I use IE rarely because there a ton of annoying things that plague the browser/mail while netscape runs fine for me.

Last week people were bitching like babes about sound files playing at GFY - with netscape I didn't hear them. LOL
Don't get me started on mail program.

Interesting reasoning process. But it overlooks the 2 key elements necessary in punishing any act... the act and the intent. The act of posting the link is not at issue, the issue is the intent. Since there is reasonable doubt as to whether he intended to have it cause damage is debatable. There is a redirect service and those services are notorious for using these auto download scripts.

That's the only point of my post. Your reference to "lame assed people who never stand up...etc" does not apply since there is doubt as to the person's culpability to begin with.

pr0 06-28-2002 01:58 PM

Hold on a second, the self proclaimed semi-god of tgp's, a guy that can afford to rent a fucking cruise ship for a party can't figure out how to keep gator off his computer? :1orglaugh

Gemini 06-28-2002 02:09 PM

Yet another Ace Law Stoodunt. :BangBang:

What the heck is someone in the adult business doing using redirect sites for anyhow?!?!

And if you DO use them you obviously know what they do as in trying to auto download etc. If you don't then you haven't done your homework and this will tic off the surfers you manage to drag up.

Again, WHY is a redirect being used in the first place?!?:helpme

ServerGenius 06-28-2002 02:35 PM

I agree with the ban however it's possible in IE to just turn off
autodownloading and install stuff on your desktop. And the
reason why I use IE and not other any other browser is the
simple fact that 99.9% of all my users/customers use that
browser....

If they would all use lynx I would use lync too...:1orglaugh

DynaMite

boldy 06-28-2002 02:39 PM

I dont agree with the ban ...

Sorry buttuh, at the time the link was okay, it has been like a month ago ?!

I cannot control other peeps pages right ?

:(

Lensman 06-28-2002 02:50 PM

Should we ban every poster with a page that has a dialer install? Or any reference to any progam that has a dialer install?

It prompted me to install it, and I said no. Is that hard to do?

That's like saying spam is wrong and just slapping someone on the wrist.

Then you get 2000 spams a day.

Act and intent are just for idiots who want to hold up some unrealistic idea of the world and don't want to be held responsible for their actions.

Every heard of manslaughter? no intent, you still goto jail.

point - but it comes down to if it's your url or not.

a statement like that gives you the right to link to child porn, rape, and basically anything you want to. total bullshit.

1) Act and intent analysis are always used to determine culpability in a rational, civil, and educated society. If that's unrealistic then what do you propose as an alternate standard? Lynchings, mob rule, whoever can scream the loudest, whoever has the most money? Or maybe we can revert to truth finding "analysis" used in the Middle Ages--dunk a guy in water, if he floats, he's guilty. If he doesn't...he's dead...but innocent :)

2) Yes, I've heard of manslaughter. There is still an intent component, it is lower mens rea requirement--recklessness. This is lower than the MALICE needed for murder. Just because the intent requirement is lower, does not mean there is NO intent requirement. There ARE no intent crimes but these are administrative in nature or infractions that do not apply to homicide.

a1ka1ine 06-28-2002 04:14 PM

wtf??

why the hell would anyone wanna ban boldy??

people just start fights for fun on here...

why the fuck would you ban someone for a link outside of their control, thats just OTT.

Sly_RJ 06-28-2002 04:20 PM

This thread is too fucking funny. People post links daily to sites that they don't own. Yahoo! News and eBay are just a couple. So if the guy at the linked to eBay auction bails and fucks someone over, are you going to come crying to the original link poster? "It doesn't matter about intent, he still fucked me over!"

Hold people responsible for THEIR actions. Not someone else's.

Sorry you got the bad wrap for this one boldy. Sometimes fools don't know the difference between their head and their assholes.

Kimmykim 06-28-2002 04:24 PM

Ban him? No way. Give me his address and I'll go beat the fuck out of him. Gator is EVIL, BAD and anyone stupid enough to be pushing it on people needs a good ass whooping.

Whoever told you the world was fair lied. Somebody posts a link they are responsible for it. Period.

If you use a freehost or would you not check your site? Would you continue with the host knowing that they are placing autodownloads on your pages?

Would he continue? Probably not. Would he go back through to every link list, search engine, porn directory, and message board he ever posted the link to and ask that it be taken down? Fuck no.

Would you?

GFED 06-28-2002 06:11 PM

I clicked on the link, and nothing tried to autoinstall... Boldy is a trustworthy person, and he wouldn't do something like that on purpose. (assuming you're the same guy I know from freetgpsubmitter)

G Sharp 06-28-2002 06:16 PM

Everybody knows the world is not fair. I was focusing on fair PROCEDURES and analysis rather than outcomes.

chodadog 06-28-2002 11:18 PM

This thread is fucking stupid.
Even more stupid than SleazyDream himself.

You are aware that the internet is quite a dynamic thing, aren't you? The various pages on it update now and then.

AMAZING!!!

He's already explained that the site was not like that when he posted the link. And what the fuck.. trying to establish some sort of parallel between criminal law and a message board posting?

You really are a fucking idiot.

The Machine 06-28-2002 11:25 PM
