Are people who don't understand SOUTHPARK humor less intelligent ?
I think they are for sure.
|
Less intelligent than who? A smug pseudo-intellectual that thinks he's head and shoulders above the masses because he understands South Park?

you are intelligent?

No they probably just have a life.
|
Well, they can be considered more intelligent for understanding "more" than other people, but at the same time... it can be considered just a "taste" which is differing amongst everyone, regardless of intelligence.
|
I guess so. But who doesn't understand southpark humour? I mean, it's not like it's an intellectual challenge.

someones taste depends on the persons intelligence. So it's basically the same. |

As to the topic posed, yes I believe they are... |
Wizzo, just curious what footage is your sig from? Awesome...
|
It's the same with Monty Python movies.
An intelligent person understands what's funny about it. Others see it as a load of crap without understanding the deeper meaning of it! yes |
Ok, I love south park, but honestly.... even a special needs first grader understands southpark humor.
I think you meant to ask, "Are people who don't LIKE southpark humor less intelligent"..... I'd say no more so then people who can't articulate what they mean to say. :winkwink: |

'Common sense' was posted earlier in the thread. That is it in a nutshell but most people dont have it.
I have met Trey several times, my best friend went to college with him. He is a funny mofo who is laughing all the way to the bank. |

No thats not true. They enjoy it because of other reasons. For example, they laugh with the terrance and phillip fart jokes, because of the funny sound. Someone who understands how brilliantly funny these characters are, watches the show in another way. And they also don't understand the deeper meaning behind the episodes from the last season :p |

I guess you're one of those American Funniest Home Videos hahaha humor. "Look my mom is decorating the christmas tree and omg, she falls!! LOOOOL, You win $10000, congratulations!!" |
Name someone who doesn't understand it.
|
I don't "understand" southpark...but Monthy python.

Hey, it's just as fair a question. |

I think it depends which area of in intelligence is in question.
South Park contains huge amounts of references that someone whose not tuned in just won't get. That same person might be an incredible chess player, yet lame at wit and satire. If you're like me you'd rather be friends with the person with a deeper sense of wit, but that's still no valid reason to question someone's intelligence. |
Maybe I'm just way too fucking intelligent for my own good (although I highly doubt it), because I still can't comprehend how anyone from first grade up couldn't grasp southpark.
BTW - 10th season starts on Wed!!!!! |

I never said i'm some kind of whiz because i understand it. I just think people who understand it are more intelligent than people who don't. That doesn't mean they are Einsteins. |

Its all about the person and what your into...i understand all the references cause thats my kind of a thing...i love movies like airplane, history of the world part II,and top secret ...now some people who had thier face in books all thier life and never got out the house just would not get it cause its not thier thing or what thier into.....ive seen countless rich guys get a flat and wont know how to change it or know how to check thier oil....but they way over shadow me with what they make a year i can do those things but dont ask me to do an open heart surgery or prosacute a mass murder cause it aint my thing....

You actually sound like you feel superior over the masses. |
I agree with you, people who dont understud that kind of humor are hypocrats, for example actor who give voice to chef.
|
Quote:
Not superior over the masses, just smug know-it-all teenagers. |

Too bad he left the show because of some scientology jokes. |

Just because someone can see the "hidden references" in South Park only means they're media junkies. Nothing more. Same as with the Simpsons. I can't stand South Park and even when I was in a room when it was on and understood the references they were making light of, I thought it still retarded and low brow.
Now Family Guy; anyone who can't grasp the genius behind that shit are just plain stupid. ;) |

The greatest thing about the show are all the different characters that are all brilliant and funny, each in their own way... and that's what some people like you don't get. Family guy is also a great and funny show. But less intelligence needed to understand :p They even mention that in a southpark episode... It's just a series of flashbacks... "Whow, i havent had this much fun since that time... -insert joke 845 here-" But the family guy characters are great though, especially peter and brian :1orglaugh |

Just because I MAY think such things, does that make me any less intelligent than those who follow former, prescribed and often made-up critiques of such works that somehow a bunch of other sheep happened to agree with and follow? Probably. Why I wrote this post. I don't know. Guess I should start watching South Park, or something. *shrug* |

Don't get me wrong. There are certain pieces of art / music / writing / whatever that touch my inner soul as strong as "love" might. For instance, as a young teen in high school, I found a William Blake quote: "He who binds to himself a joy, does the winged life destroy / He who kisses the joy as it flies, lives in Eternity's sunrise". Regardless of the pot and mushrooms I did back then, that quick poem has been very influential in my life, yet I never see it posted or hung anywhere. Another example: I never knew some guy named Banksy existed until some dude named Rand posted a thread about him on this board. Googled the name. Found the website and stumbled across the following hotlinked picture: http://www.banksy.co.uk/indoors/imag...werchucker.gif Why that picture evokes such emotion in me that I hotlink it in this thread, I have no idea. However, I have come to the realization that art, in whatever form, is either based on ONE person's desire for it or ONE person's desire for it based on a group around them influencing that desire. |

If you look at Van Gogh's life's work he really was a genius. Whacky, but a genius. |

And I'm not saying I wouldn't love an original piece by such a painter. Now that would be insane; thinking such a work worthless in my own head when regular society mints it as priceless. |
Yes.
:2 cents: |
nobody is as smart as me

what is southpark?
