domain name valuation - help

I received an email earlier asking me if I was interested in selling the domain www.dirtybiz.com and asking me how much I would want for it. That is a hard question.

How do you value domain names? Based on how catchy it is? Brandability? length? Type-In traffic?

How much do you think I should ask for www.dirtybiz.com?

Thoughts, suggestions, comments would be appreciated.

Ask more than you want and see what happens:)

Ask what he want to offer you and at least double it :Graucho

Start HIGH ($100.000) and tell him if he does not like that offer he can make a offer that he think is fair. Then offer it to him for the double of what he offers.
He he want the domain you should be able to get aprox 150% of what he offers (or $100.000)

Tell him to make you an offer & take it from there. That way you can get an idea how much he's willin' to shell out.

It don't cost much to renew it, so I think you should keep it. A very catchy name and you may end regretting the sale. Use it as a resource site:) Unless you get extreme cash, I wouldn't sell it, I like it:thumbsup

I don't think it's catchy at all. Not a bad name, but definitely not great.

Rent him the name for what your average site pulls in

No, I don't want to rent it. Too much of an administrative hassel.

Dax 06-28-2002 09:54 AM

Best thing to do is rent it or lease it.

Start low ( $150/month ) or something and do the contract on 6 months intervals, that way you can raise the ammount as his visits raise.

I have a couple of domains leased and it's the best way to go, you get a small check every month, still own the name and if they really want it, they will pretty much pay you whatever to keep it .. after they have spent so much energy and time building it. :Graucho

LawPal-

Got ICQ or something, we both are in Miami, we should meet up for drinks or something. You can find me at ICQ 19491517 if you do not have it let me know what proggy you have! =)

GFED 06-28-2002 10:12 AM

Keep the name, it'll be worth a lot more in the future imo. With a name like that, I wouldn't settle for less than a few thousand. What do I know, I thought my domain was cool.

:)

kmanrox 06-28-2002 10:14 AM

imho as someone whose sold about 10 domains for tens of thousands, id valuate it at about 800$ max

That does not matter to me. If I get a serious offer I will seriously consider it. I won't bother with a lowball offer because it is easier for me to just hang onto the name and renew it.

12clicks 06-28-2002 11:31 AM

its not worth much.

what do you make per year with it? if its a lot, ask for 2 years worth of income, if you're not making much off it, it won't be worth too much.

holding it for the future is idiotic :1orglaugh
