How to make Mojitos tutorial inside. Delicious, Enjoy!!!
I tried a mojito a few months ago in Mexico and every since then I?ve been craving them. They are absolutely delicious!!! For some reason there are a lot of bars and clubs around my area that don?t make them for some reason. So, I?m going solo on the venture.
Here is a tutorial on how to make them?..just thought I would share with you all. http://ipi.fi/~hessu/mojito/mojito-crushed_small.jpg http://ipi.fi/~hessu/mojito/mojito-crushed1_small.jpg The incredients and tools: A jigger (measuring tool), soda siphon, brown sugar, Havana Club rum, a muddler, two limes, two collins glasses, spoon and fresh mint. http://ipi.fi/~hessu/mojito/mojito-crushed2_small.jpg Starting with sugar and mint: Sugar and mint are placed in the glass. Next a splash of soda is added. http://ipi.fi/~hessu/mojito/mojito-crushed3_small.jpg Muddling: Sugar, mint and a splash of soda water are muddled. http://ipi.fi/~hessu/mojito/mojito-crushed4_small.jpg Building the drink: After muddling, lime juice, crushed ice and rum are added. The drink is then briefly stirred and after stirring the spent half of a lime is rested of the ice for a layer of garnish. http://ipi.fi/~hessu/mojito/mojito-crushed5_small.jpg Finishing the build: More crushed ice is added to cover the lime hull. Some room is left for soda water which is used to fill the glass. http://ipi.fi/~hessu/mojito/mojito-crushed6_small.jpg Ready to drink: Mint is added for garnish after topping the glasses with soda. |

Your visual aids are excellent but your instructions are not 100% Cuban. I take my mojitos very seriously and have been trained by the best in Barcelona and Havana.
I see no lemons, the glass you are using is wrong, and the order in which are mixing is wrong. 1. Put mint in the glass 2. Two Tablespoons of sugar 3. 1cm of lemon juice is put into the glass. In Havana they use real lemons but lemon concentrate from the store is acceptable. 4. With the sugar, lemon, and mint in place. Now muddle. You will see the mint start to bleed and you will smell it. 5. Add ice (fill the cocktail glass) - You should be using the tiny, tiny bullet shaped ice. 6. Add rum until 5mm away from the top of the glass. 7. Top off with a splash of soda water 8. Mix with the long spoon you have in the picture 9. Garnish with mint Tres Anos Havana Club is the usual... Cinqo Anos for the mature drinker. -dd |
On the topic of delicious drinks from south america may I present my favorite, the michelada very simple and quite tastey, forgive me lack of bartender lingo.
needed: 1 lime, 1 corona, margarita mix, tabasco, crushed ice, margarita salt. 1: place salt around rim of frosted mug 2: put crushed ice in glass 3 splash of margarita mix 4: pour corona into glass 5: no more than 6 drops of tobasco(varies person to person) 6: stir with big soon Delicious drink that you can't put down because your mouth is on fire from the last sip so you need more. Do not single handedly kill a 12 pack of corona doing this or you will regret it in the bathroom the next morning. Just trust me on this issue. |
