Police test a new set of wheels
An O.C. company pitches its scooters as a new alternative to cars or Segways.

It looks like a tricycle pumped up on steroids. A sleek BMW motorcycle but not as cool. A scooter from the future.

It's called a T3 Series.

And law enforcement agencies across the county are testing out the vehicles, touted as the newest way for beat officers on foot to get around quickly without running out of breath.

The vehicle is quiet enough to sneak up on a thief, turns on a dime and zooms to 25 mph.

It's ideal for catching "bad guys" on foot, said Costa Mesa Lt. Allen Huggins, who ditched his squad car last month for a trial run on the T3 Series.

But it's not perfect...
