Microsoft's new DRM hacked in only 4 days

Microsoft released new DRM for its PlaysForSure system on September 23rd. It only took 4 days for the hacker behind the FairUse4WM software to hack the new version, and Microsoft is claiming that the hacker, who goes by Viodentia, apparently broke into their systems to get the info necessary to do this.

I am not sure what is worse; the fact that the new version was hacked in only 4 days, or Microsoft claiming that their security systems were also hacked in the process. Click here to read an article about this from engadget.com.

pathetic...

DirtyJs 09-28-2006 06:43 AM

microsoft needs to step back for a second and re-evaluate their claims at 'security'

Nookster 09-28-2006 06:50 AM

My money is on the hacker just figuring out how to hack the code itself and not the elaborate gauntlet he would have had to go through by going through their systems to get the source then figure out how to crack it. My :2 cents: :winkwink:

Too bad really. While I don't agree with all content being DRM protected, there certainly is a need for protected content in some cases.

sumphatpimp 09-28-2006 07:19 AM

only Microshit would be dumb enough to admit to being hacked twice, and feel good about it.
I wish they would just go away, a five year old and a monkey could do better than they have.

MS should have bought Novell years ago (at the right time) and adopted their protocols and hired their programmers.

Correct. No different then the radar gun/fuzz buster debate.

Everytime they come out with a new gun, signal, laser, frequency... there is already a detector for it within a month.

Almost every program on the market has a black hat, hack, alt version.

Resistance is futile.

:winkwink:

Well ....LOL !!

I think what MS should do is hire this kid for 1 mil and lock him up in-house ;)

*snicker*

Very amusing, thanks for sharing.

It probably doesn't help that all the hackers are focused on hacking them.

Of course you are going to get hacked when all the hackers are trying to hack you.

very true... same reason why windows and ms products are always cracked/hacked. everyone is focused on them

Radiate 09-28-2006 11:05 AM
