GFY Maintenance set for 08, October 2006
 

*** EARLY WARNING ***

Time for some upgrades, and this one is big on the initial processing time. Testing on the development servers is done, and doing some final tuning on the templates now. This upgrade will take a bit longer due to database modifications, means rebuilding the entire threads database (650K+ threads). During the test on a fully cloned database (11M+ posts), it took about 3 hours, 10 minutes of raw processing time alone. I'm thinking 4-hours max downtime for the entire conversion and update. Upgrade will probably start at midnight Pacific Time and be done by 4am the morning of 08 October 2006. This one will be worth it, and YEP it looks like this will certainly fix some of the major problems we've had with the ailing search feature. :)

Between just the post and threads database tables it's just around 5GB, without the indexes. :Oh crap

Thankx for the early announcement, maybe you will disable nested quotes too to speed up the boards. Sometimes it takes forever to load all those images over and over again :helpme

I am looking at something that will do that. I see a number of times when someone does a FULL quote to a post that has 20 big images, and then they only reply with "great pics". That does aggravate the shit out of me, and I think I have a way to limit "quoted thread" replies to limit it to the first image only. :)
