Guns don't kill people...

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million..)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188.
Statistics courtesy of FBI

Now think about this:

(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services.

So, statistically, doctors are approximately 900 times more dangerous than gun owners. Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do." Fact: Not everyone has a gun but almost everyone has a doctor. Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand. Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention."

I would be more concerned about the non-accidental killings by gun owners than the accidental ones, actually....

Good Post. Agreed all the way. Those damn physicians.

Dirty F 09-27-2006 10:44 AM

1500 lives couldve been saved if those people didnt have guns.

Guns arent needed in society. Gun are only made to kill.

Cars, knifes etc arent and are products we HAVE to use daily. Accidents will happen with anything we use. Chairs, forks, etc but little you can do about it.

1500 accidents with guns couldve been avoided simply by not buying/using guns.

Dirty F 09-27-2006 10:46 AM

Gunni, can you link me to the page about physicians? I want to read more about it.

TOURKNOOK 09-27-2006 10:49 AM

you got a point:winkwink: :winkwink:

GrouchyAdmin 09-27-2006 10:50 AM

If it was up to Franck, the inclined plane, and pulley would also be classified as weapons.

PantieZ 09-27-2006 10:55 AM

guns donīt kill people, but i doubt the most people were able to kill someone without a gun ..... :2 cents:

introducing guns to a gun free country is plain stupid, in countries like SA, US, Brazil I MUST have the right to own a gun

no, it was just a copy paste,
however it says "Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services."
So I guess you can find it there if you're interested :)
I just thought this was amusing.

Also just for the reckord I'm not a big fan of people being allowed to buy handguns or assault weapons designed only to kill humans, rifles and shotguns are fine with me, you can use them to hunt and to defend your home (shotguns in particular) but it is a bit harder to conceal them

The JOURNAL of the AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION (JAMA) Vol 284, No 4, July 26th 2000 article written by Dr Barbara Starfield, MD, MPH, of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, shows that medical errors may be the third leading cause of death in the United States.

The report apparently shows there are 2,000 deaths/year from unnecessary surgery; 7000 deaths/year from medication errors in hospitals; 20,000 deaths/year from other errors in hospitals; 80,000 deaths/year from infections in hospitals; 106,000 deaths/year from non-error, adverse effects of medications - these total up to 225,000 deaths per year in the US from iatrogenic causes which ranks these deaths as the # 3 killer. Iatrogenic is a term used when a patient dies as a direct result of treatments by a physician, whether it is from misdiagnosis of the ailment or from adverse drug reactions used to treat the illness. (drug reactions are the most common cause).
now the deaths caused by doctors are up to 225k :upsidedow

But if those people didn't have guns to spend time on, they might spend more time at the clinics taking care of themselves and would therefore die at the hands of their doctor :winkwink:

I fully agree with you. In dangerous third world countries with high crime rates, high poverty levels and an inefficient police force one has no choice but to protect oneself :winkwink:

Lazonby 09-28-2006 03:24 AM

Urban environments don't need an armed population, but rural ones do.

chaze 09-28-2006 03:27 AM

Doctors now a days suck, it's all about the money which kills any real possibility of fixing someone.

I didnt' actually think anyone would take this seriously, of course it is stupid, you might as well say ban cars, they kill more people every year than guns and doctors combined! :small-smi

Going into surgery is alot riskier than hanging out w/ a gun owner. Makes sense.
