Strange webalizer stats - 22,230 Hits - 47 Visits
 

Been getting 10's of thousands of hits each day to this domain lately, but only a few dozen visitors. Normally I would think this would mean that files were being hotlinked off the domain or something, but webalizer shows the top "URL" as only have about 250 hits. Webalizer is not showing any files that have gotten anywhere near 10's of thousands of hits / loads total, let alone per day.

Any ideas?

The only time I've had that happen was due to hotlinking as you mentioned above. I hope you get it figured out.

Hitbot perhaps

use a counter and see if you get the same stats

I have counters on the few pages that I know to get hits, and the stats are within the same range. Unfortunately I don't know of a "counter" per se that can count non-webpage files loading.

Anyway, taking a closer look there are a lot of ip's that have accessed the site 100+ times each. Bots of some kind I assume. But I can't figure out what files they are hitting ..
