Then when I go to a folder or try to delete anything in a folder the whole damn system locks up. I didnt have this probem before the hard drive died on me so IM Totaly lost. I ran scan disk several times no errors I ran a program within windows to fine any croupt files nada
I get several program errors as well. Im trying everything and anything so I dont have to re install everything and waste another 8 hours ARGH!#@$ Right now all I can do is get on the web not icq or anything like that. THIS is weird. I have 312megs of ram pIII 550 3d proccessor any idea what is going on? I even set the graphic accalerater down twice it still does it. I can not delete SHIT@!#$ So any help on this WOULD HELP ME ALOT... Thanks TOM |

yeah, just a little... Just re-install without a format, takes like 20 min

Simplify the problem. Take out all the unnecesary shit like the 3d card and soundcards, etc. Then only one stick of ram. Then boot up via cd rom to windows install and see if it's stable or if there's any errors. The only possible things that could be broken are CPU, MB, RAM, or HDD. If you get errors or crashes you should replace one component, boot, check. If you can install fine from here you should then get windows up and running. After which you add one component at a time until shit breaks. You can find your culprit this way.
If you don't want to reinstall but just delete files then it could be a whole other set of problems. Most likely via sharing if you're using nt or xp. what does the error say? |

I had a hell of the time installing Cox the first time. I wish I remembered what I did to finally get it up and running.
This is off topic, but isn't $90 for 20GB expensive? |

90 USD = 140ish Canadian = 60 to 75 gig hd |

OUCH!!!! We just got 4 - 80g WDs for 40 a pop after a 10 buck rebate each from WD and 20. each at the register (Compusa) a few weeks back. :D Reinstall windows over itself (everything stays put) then go to the upgrade MS page and upgrade and do all the patches over again. If you didn't do those then you are boffo. (Blue Thunder Lives) Remember to restart after EACH upgrade or patch. Defragging doesn't hurt every few upgrades too. Might be that rinky compaq doesn't like that large of HD too. So you may need to break it down to 2 - 10g or 4-5g drives with fdisk. NEVER NEVER use the BS utilities that some drives come with!!!! Take the time to do it right the first time or deal with the h*ll you make for yourself by being skippy Open the EN from the taskbar and see what it is. I remember seeing that before on a clients system but don't remember what it is. Easy enough to remove that EN from the startup if its not needed. |
Hate to break it to ya, but you might have a bad disk controller.

glad its all fixed for you tom

tom check with this board before you make purchases like that, $80-90 for a 20gb hard drive is really bad, you could've easily gotten a 60 gig drive and possibly a 80gig one for that price online including shipping :(
