i hate register.com

They just automatically renewed some of my domains and charged my credit card for it without my permission.

They have some auto renewal feature thats automatically turned on and charges your card. You can turn it off but I didn't even know about this "feature". I guess it's buried in the terms of the agreement when you register because I didn't see it.

Anyways, yes I'm an idiot for not knowing they auto renew domains, but just thought I'd spread the word if you're thinking of using them. Never again for me. That's a really shady and unethical practice.

That's how paysites make money, rebills is what makes this industry, so why is it unethical for a registrar to do it? :)

cuz with a paysite there's prominent text that says that after the 3 day trial you will be charged $39.99 or whatever. And if you call th processor to complain they'll remove the charges.

I complained to register and they did reverse the charges but charged me a $10 bullshit fee for EACH domain for the "processing".

I think that most registrars are moving to this type of system.

It sucks in some ways, but for those of us that have domains at tons of registrars, half of which we can't remember, it might save our asses too. :)

i still believe they were involved in stealing mikrosoft.net from me years ago

don't deal with register.com whatever you do

If you've ever talked to their customer reps you'll know what i'm talking about.

opensrs. that's the only "word" you ever need to hear in regards to domain registration.

I fully support this. I have been using OpenSRS since they started in Jannuary 2000 and have always been a happy customer.

Were you watching your email? I think they send you an email prior, telling you that your domain will be renewed shortly unless you select otherwise.

FierceHost 06-26-2002 10:40 PM
