Dont abuse your BlackBerry! Fuuuuuuuuck!!

I really loved my BlackBerry until I got my last bill. I have the new high speed ones that you can use as a modem as well. Last month we stayed at my moms home because we were doing some renovations, she has no internet connection so I was connecting daily with my BB. I used it about 2 hours a day for a week. My total invoice for August totaled $2900...yes Two Thousand Nine Hundred Dollars. Fucking freak me out LOL. I called them up spent about an hour on the phone with the manager and I was able to get them to refund me $2800, so its cost me only $100. Luckily I got someone cool there or I would have to dish out the whole sum. They kinda forced me to take a plan where I have 1000MB of data transfer, costs me $100/month, up $40 from my usual. Not to bad. :upsidedow

Unlimited when connected to laptop or using the actuall BB? If I use the BB to surf its unlimited, connected as a modem its not.

$2800!!!! wow!! and i thought my phone bill was bad!!

squishypimp 09-23-2006 04:48 PM

sorry to hear about that, you need to get an unlimited plan.

Sparks 09-23-2006 04:48 PM

Ouch, that could have been a big bill. I've been thinking about getting a BlackBerry for awhile... might have to go do it one of these days.

Unlimited plan while connected as a modem does not exist with bell. They just upgraded me to the biggest pan and I have 500MB included and $15/MB per over usage.

brand0n 09-23-2006 04:52 PM

just got hit with one of those myself

RobbieRye 09-23-2006 04:54 PM

I've had a couple of those too Ray. They sure do suck, don't they?

Glad that you talked them down.

Canada sucks with the Blackberry data plans. In the U.S. they have true unlimited plans where you don't have to worry.

tranza 09-23-2006 04:54 PM

I have an unlimited plan over here too.

But a $2900 bill is insane!!!

Jenny S. 09-23-2006 04:57 PM

We have a total internet plan with unlimited transfer and unlimited e-mail for 29.99 (regular 49.99). It's an add on to our Treos that can be used as a bluetooth laptop modem. It also works with ftp, Verizon doesn't as far as I know.

Where?

T-Mobile, where porn surfers always get more.

Ray@TastyDollars 09-23-2006 04:57 PM

Hmmm, so you guys can connect as a moden and your still unlimited? Cool

Are you on Bell or Rogers? I'm surprised your carrier let you get that much credit without calling you first, that's a huge spike!! And what's this about using a BB as a modem :)

Bell...nope, no phone call. The new high speed bell BB can also be used as a modem, really cool feature. You need to DL "Voyageur"

WiredGuy 09-23-2006 05:18 PM

Holy crap, 400 - 700 kbps over a BB? Does Rogers have a similiar setup?? How much bw comes with that (for the $100, not the $2900!).

We had a blackberry and it wasn't working either. Now we have Treos 650 which have the advantage that you don't need a separate Blackberry plan. They communicate with the laptop wirelessly via bluetooth. With T-Mobile's total internet plan you can get online. It's about as fast as a 56k modem and costs 29.99 as an add on to a cell plan. You can also use the t-mobile highspeed hotspots with the laptop.

If you need faster speed through the cellphone in metro areas there is also a PCMCIA card, I believe but you need a separate plan for that.

It'll work on Rogers too... but not with Johnny's model.

You need to change the MDS settings a bit, but there is a way. I'll look up some links and shoot you off the requirements / setup instructions WG & Johnny.

tony286 09-23-2006 06:15 PM

kaori 09-23-2006 07:44 PM

Cool, thanks. I'm on the 7290 model, not sure if it supports their high speed network, but I hope so as I don't want to buy a new one just yet, this thing was like $600 just a year ago.
