another bad place!

Well here's another place I just ran accross that doesn't even give you the 2257 imformation after your purchase even though they say there 2257 compliant.
xxx-office.biz
I just ordered from there cause I wanted to try a new content place and as I was downloading my purchased content I noticed NO INFO? So I wrote them and got this lovely letter that basically means I am fucked when it comes to this content:

Dear madison,

Thank you for prompt reply.

As it is specified in the License agreement at:
xxx-office.biz/new/license.html
(in the section "Legal info" on the site), our company hold all
models ID's and releases. In case of demand from the authorized
institutions, our company immediately provide copies of all necessary
ID's and model releases.

Use the following link in the pages with content in question:
xxx-space.net/2257.html

Let us know if there is ever anything else we can do for you.

Kindest regards,
xxx-Office Team

So I write them back this:
I had no clue or I wouldn't have purchaced these. We have to hold the
Identification because by the 2257 law the Site Owner is suppost to have
all of this. I will look up this information and ask my lawyer but I do
know it is a MUST for sites like mine to have these documents because
content sites shut down all the time and leave owners with nothing and
invalid content. By the 2257 law if the officals show up at the site
owners door they are suppost to be able to show proof of these documents
immediatly and contacting you isn't immediatly so these really aren't
2257 compliant. You might wanna post this somewhere because I know there
might be some upset people on your hands after spending alot of money on
content like I would have done when making my other site.

Here was there response:

Dear madison,

Thank you for prompt reply.

Don't worry, we work on the market already over 7 years and don't plan to shut down.
And during this period any client got all necessary support, if it was requested.
Please follow the conditions of License Agreement.

Let us know if there is ever anything else we can do for you.

Kindest regards,
xxx-Office Team

Now this don't help me at all and I just wasted my fucking money in which I am NOT happy about UGH! Isn't this illegal for them to do this? Liek don't the content selling sites have to be compliant more than anyone? I thought I read in the 2257 law that if they sell or distribute content they are in full responsability for the content as well as the site owner or company that buys it? Here's what I found in the laws:

??(f) It shall be unlawful?
??(1) for any person to whom subsection (a) applies to fail
to create or maintain the records as required by subsections
(a) and (c) or by any regulation promulgated under this section;

e)(1), a statement describing where
the records required by this section may be located, but such
person shall have no duty to determine the accuracy of the
contents of the statement or the records required to be kept.

??(i)(1) Whoever violates this section shall be imprisoned for
not more than 1 year, and fined in accordance with the provisions
of this title, or both.
Any opinions on this matter?

Not everybody lives in America and is required to be 2257 compliant.

MadisonLee 09-23-2006 09:01 AM

Well......

I totally understand and agree, but in that case you don't put in big letter 2257 compliant to get people to buy your stuff then throw that at them. Alot of us wish we didn't have to have those documents,(I like making sure all of them are of age but storing them is a hassle) but companies saying that and making it easier for us like some of the others I have bought from make the whole 2257 hassle so much easier for us who have to keep tight records. I certainly don't worry about or personally care who is 2257 compliant, but if you aren't don't say you are just to get me to buy from you then say you won't give me the information nessesary to make the content legal. Now that's just my opinion that is probably not to pleasant after wasting money on this stuff, but who would be pleasant after losing money for no reason?

My question is why does a website in the Dominican Republic have a 2257 notice anyways if only to bring in business from US webmasters?
