sending letter to Montreal

sending normal letter to montreal canada from the states - any body know how much postage?

can i just drop it in any old mail box - or do i need to leave my property and go to the post office?

SleazyDream 06-26-2002 01:33 PM

just buy $80.00 worth of stamps and attach them all. I'm sure it will get there.

Brown Bear 06-26-2002 01:33 PM

yes, you can put it in a regular mailbox, but I think you will need slightly more postage on it

check the US mail website

BrettJ 06-26-2002 01:34 PM

the US gov't has a website? how fuck'n cool is that!! how much is the membership? can i get a refund if i'm not happy with the content?

Brown Bear 06-26-2002 01:35 PM

I think its $0.60 to send a regular envelope to Montreal

BrettJ 06-26-2002 01:39 PM

yup that's what i just found out too. to do airmail.

Can i send AirMail from my house - don't i need a pretty sticker that says air mail on it?

Brown Bear 06-26-2002 01:42 PM

All you have to do is put it in a mailbox with the right postage and it will get there.

Going to an actual post office won't be any different, they just put it in the outgoing mail (which is the same as a mail box)

the Shemp 06-26-2002 01:43 PM

No you dont need an airmail sticker on it. First class mail is airmail between the USA/Canada,

So i can just drop it in the box - like no big deal - and it will get there relatively quickly (saw most of the times were 3-4 days - but ground was 4-6 weeks). That's what i'm trying to avoid - is getting this letter stuck on ground because i just dropped it in my box instead of going to the Post officed.

Brown Bear 06-26-2002 01:53 PM

It will get there within 1 week.

Usually it take about 4-6 days.

Example: Send it on a Wednesday and it will likely get to Montreal around Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of the next week.

Yeah... no extra charges/postage for you to send regular mail from the States to Canada but to send mail to the States from Canada not only costs us more but we need special stamps.

On a different but related topic... Canada has no saturday delivery and get this... NO MAIL PICKUP AT YOUR HOUSE. It was funny... when Tera and I first moved here from the States we were putting outgoing mail in our mailbox and we couldn't figure out why the fuck the mailman wouldn't pick it up. Come to find later that you have to actually walk around the city and try to find these well hidden little red boxes to put your mail in if you want the postal service to deliver it for you.

Ground sevice doesnt apply to regular size letters, just larger envelopes and parcels. Jusr drop the letter in the box.

I've never used any special stamps to send letters to the US Rich J. Just more postage. Of course, I never checked to see that if got there :)

You're not allowed to send anything into Canada.
Unless it's money, and it's addressed to me.

BrettJ 06-26-2002 08:14 PM

Evil Chris 06-27-2002 06:36 AM

Really? I mail stuff to the U.S. all the time and when I go to the post office to buy stamps I have to buy international stamps for stuff going to the U.S. and then regular one's for stuff staying in Canada. Hrmmm... maybe I'm just getting screwed.

dragonlady 06-27-2002 08:52 AM

Rich - You don't need International stamps for the States - just ask for a US pak. The stamps come 6 to a pak and are 65 cents each.
