CANADA!! Why would an American consider visiting/moving/living there..

This is a serious question...I'm looking to get out of Puerto Rico when my lease is up and I'm not coming back to the mainland united states..It's either going to be another caribbean island or it will be Canada..

So what are the advantages of Being in Canada...I know that there have to be some...

Oh and saying "Ni&&er we don't want you here" will only make me want to come more. :)

Phoenix 09-20-2006 09:50 AM

Well Toronto is where I would be going if I came there...I drove from Toronto to Ohio once so I know it's doable...Too bad I tried to do it in a blizzard and could died under the wheels of an 18 wheeler...Thank God I swerved out of the tires way and hit the cement divider...

My car's front end was fucked up but I still drove it all the way home..It cut off on me at a gas station and the nice canadian man just replugged in something and charged me only a couple of dollars...

Our national mascott is a beaver... need I say more?

fuzebox 09-20-2006 10:02 AM

I'm trying to think of reasons to move there, and am drawing a blank.

It is better to live than the USA, but that's about it...

I am no racist so if you ever move up here, WELCOME TO THE GREAT BEAVER LAND!!! :D

Most people that I know who moved here from another country seem to love it (at least in Montreal) but I do hear complaints about the cold weather that is if you're not used to it. Although the restaurants are great and girls in montreal are fun, open and beautiful...

There's certainly good opportunities to do biz here too.

That's the only thing I'm scared of is the weather...But after sweating in the caribbean every fucking day for months, I'd give my left pinky toe for a cold crisp fall day...My electric bill was 300 last month. So I guess I couldn't escape the high winter gas prices. Now they're high YEAR ROUND electric prices.

Anthony 09-20-2006 10:13 AM

If you move up to Canada, do not live on the east coast if you hate the winter.

Move to Vancouver. Of course, I can count on 2 hands how many black canadians I met in 4 years there.

squishypimp 09-20-2006 10:33 AM

canada is cold, why would americans wanna live in cold weather?

Z 09-20-2006 10:34 AM

Canada's great if you like the cold.

If you don't like the cold, consider Panama. :thumbsup

First time I hear such thing as 'closing off a country'.

worst place ive ever lived and I'm leaving next week I can't wait!!!!!!!!!

We cant either...

You're right. I'd rather stay in the States and have to pay a fortune in medical insurance for myself and my family. Esp. when the threat of a terrorist attack constantly flies over my head. I'd rather deal with paperwork then missiles and hurricanes.

the people are the RUDEST PRICKS i've ever met - especially the french...

That is why 75% of French ppl in Quebec can carry on an English conversation with ppl who visits that wont make at least the effort of TRYING to express simple phrases in our national language. It kills me when a visitor speaks in English to a French person not even slowing down on the slang but at the end they'll say 'merci' and feel all hip about that. Wtf?? I just got a headache trying to understand your Alabama redneck blabbing and you think I wont understand the word 'thank you'...

Yup, Vancouver would be the way to go if you are coming from a warmer climate. Vancouver used to be a rain forest before being turned into a city... so the weather there tends to be much more moderate. Toronto can get anywhere from +40C (summer) to -40C (winter)... which can be quite the shock to the system if you're not used to it.

saying that the entire canadian nation sucks without taking into consideration that there also may be some areas and provinces that are decent is childish and close minded. I also have to conclude that heading back to america may also be an option - since you have so many amazing states to choose from.

If its a political thing where the climate in Canada is much better, then that is understandable. If its weather LOL.. someone needs to seriously look at a map. I live near toronto and we get temps at times over 110F and despite what hollywood says, we do not live in a frozen tundra - instead only 3 to 4 months out of the year are cold and I woudl have to say much nicer than many parts of the USA.

Best thing is to visit several areas - I would recommend Toronto but stay out of certain areas that can be horrible. Maybe some towns that are country lifestyle - remember - pretty much everyone here also has highspeed internet for cheap running into the house.

NoCarrier 09-20-2006 10:55 AM

What are you going to say to Immigration Canada? You are running away from the U.S. because Bush is a dictator and your life is in danger?

:1orglaugh Good luck with that!

Damn Kitty, I guess you had a bad experience Eh!

Canada is a great place to live but one needs a second home south for winters ;-)

I've lived in 5 provinces in Canada.. i'd recommend people to move out west to Vancouver, weather is all over, for porn its good - lots of promising models i've worked with and tons of new influx, and a 12 hour drive to LA.

My 2 cents.

I would seriously consider Vancouver since the weather is far better, plus half of my friends are former Torontonians and don't plan on moving back there. No offence to any Torontonians here :)

Vancouver is the most photographed city on Flikr so do a search there and see.

I have my own valid reasons. I didn't realize that it was relevant for the creation of this thread.

Cyrano 09-20-2006 12:13 PM

If you're seriously considering moving to Canada, I suggest you avoid Ontario entirely. It's a dull, cultureless province that lacks any form of uniqueness in comparison with others, or the States.

Montreal, Quebec or Vancouver, BC would serve you much better.

Living in Puerto Rico, I realized that I don't give a shit if it's unique...Just as long as I can get the four seasons, There are plenty of girls on the street for me to hunt, and it's outside of the United States...

Plus I would love to try Vancouver, however, there aren't any black people there so I wouldn't have any talent to shoot like in Toronto...Plus in Toronto, even though it isn't in the United States, I can get home to my Mama whenever I need to within five hours in my car...And I don't have to get on a plane..

I also can't stand living anywhere that is unorganized. PR is organized but I know if i move to another caribbean country, I'm going to have to give up some organization and timeliness and since I have my two kids with me, I don't know if that is a feasible alternative...

Toronto is clean, safe, cosmopolitan, and most importantly ORGANIZED with good roads..You don't know the beating my car has taken here in PR on these roads....Thank God it's a rental cause shit is already starting to rattle on the thing.....

I want the peace of mind knowing that if something serious happens with my or my kids health, there are facilities and a doctor that uses sterile updated equipment...Most of these caribbean countries, you'd be stucked between FUBAR and having to fly to miami for care, in which time you could be dead by arrival...

It's a whole LOT fucking harder doing this shit when one has children to consider..If it wasn't for them, I'd be in Africa knee deep in jungle pussy and marijuana right now.

BVF 09-20-2006 01:46 PM

fuck i didn't know marijuana possession was legal in Ontario and a blind eye is turned to prostitution? Hmmmmm....I'm starting to like it.

I moved from the states to Toronto I LOVE IT...

Hell today Me and Ellisa bought a new home. We talked about moving to Vancouver but its just too damn expensive out there.

You can drive to Buffalo and hop on a cheap flight to almost anywhere in the USA for less then 200 Bucks each way and not have to pay the international taxes that go along with flying out of Toronto.

I travel down to Baltimore on a regular basis either via Car or plane never any problems.

Hit me up on ICQ if you have any questions for an American living in Canada

Canada is not ghetto, you don't see much violence... in most places people are open minded and mind their own business.

Canada is awesome but the winter is Very fucking cold.
I spend new years in montreal once and it was 35 BELOW.

And theyre pretty racist in Canada. My Indian friend told me he got harassed by a group of white canadian guys in toronto.

FYI look on a map - Toronto is farther south than a few states (besides Alaska) and I can guarantee you our winters are milder than Buffalo, Green Bay and other wrong-side-of-the-lake cities.

Also, far more cleaner than any major US city.
Way less crime (look it up).
No NFL team here, but we got NFL Sunday Ticket and Detroit/Buffalo aren't a long way off.
Very good school system (and cheaper universities - in cost, not quality)

Racism? You'll find a country overall far less race-obsessed than our southern neighbours.

Gee, I guess I was wrong .. one person gets harassed here and suddenly we're a racist country?
Ha ha ha

Don't listen to this type of crap, overall Canada is one of the best countries in the world to live. And the winter can be a pain, but you get that in 2/3 of the US .. and it's tolerable here with all the other advantages.

In Vancouver we get maybe 2-5 days worth of snow on the ground. It isn't that cold. Our weed is some of the best in the world, and I know from travelling and experience.

Vancouver isn't rated one of the best places to live IN THE WORLD for nothing. I live accross the street from the beach, 3 ski-able mountains 1 hour away, and Whistler is an amazing 2 hour drive from the city.

Spunky 09-20-2006 04:40 PM
