PAYSITE TIP - Use Your Stats!
 

I haven't done one of these in awhile and since it's come up a lot with customers of mine lately... it's time to go over it I'd say. =] I've probably posted something similar in the past but it's also probably been over a year so here goes:

Think back to the days when you were still a surfer and looking at porn sites. Maybe you joined a couple in your day before you got the notion to make your own. If you're like I was (and like 90% or more of your clients), you surf right about when you're looking for a little me relief time. =] So what drove you to join? What drives the majority of the market to whip out a credit card? Well basically, something finally makes the person horny enough without finishing the job that they just HAVE to rub one out to it NOW! [This assuming they haven't gotten off on all the free shit out there - but that's another discussion... people still join sites.]

So how do you decide what is going to make them hit that point? You have your personal taste to go on when choosing which sample videos to put up and which pictures to use as caps and in the graphics. This can work to an extent, especially if your site is something you are a fan of yourself. But it only goes so far (and almost nowhere when the site isn't within your tastes).

You wanna see a marked jump in your conversions? Than monitor stats... especially those from your members area. Check out which galleries get hit hardest... which thumbnail a gallery gets clicked on the most. What is the most downloaded video? Your surfers are seeing something that makes them wanna whip it out that moment and to take that knowledge out to the tour is a huge bonus.

Thumbs that get a lot of traffic are great as thumbs filling up extra sample areas on the tour... these are the pics guys are dying to see larger.

Most downloaded videos are the ones you offer the teaser of.

Most popular models are the ones you put into the graphics of the site.

None of this is rocket science but I am amazed at how few people take the time to look at the stats and get that info. A day?s work every couple of months can be a 10% or greater increase in conversion. Heck I've seen it double conversions on sites where the owner isn't into the particular niche him/herself.

If you don't have real good server stats you can always go with a free counter like www.statscounter.com.

Yeah... you know it's tedious work and a lot of us avoid that kind of stuff. We quit our day jobs cuz they were so damn boring ya know? But you can have one of your workers compile the stats anyway so it's just a smart thing to do and a very high return on the time investment.

One of the best tips you could give anyone, not just a paysite owner. Stats are very important and can tell you alot of info on your surfers, what they like/dislike, where they come from, where they exit, etc.. It just amazes me just how few read or know how to read the stats properly.

It's amazing how sloppy we can be in this business and still make a decent living. =] Thankfully I might add because it brings me somewhat successful clients looking to get much more successful.

Statcounter for a third party thing is fantastic. You can buy larger logs with it too. Other than that I don't know of anything past the usual server stat programs that is any better. The important thing with this kind of application is not exact numbers but rather the ratio of on link to another.

Be careful with it, ie. use an include instead of putting it on 1000 pages. Statcounter went down last week or so and made all of my sites quit loading until they corrected it. :2 cents:

Just wondering but what 3rd party counter tracks which thumbnails or movies get downloaded the most? Hell, even finding that info on server logs would be damn hard. That's a TON of logs to keep, a huge amount of data.

Most CMS software packages do this already, so we can turn our log files off and only turn them on when they are needed.

Showing the most popular members video, photo sets, ect doesn't always increase your conversion ratios. If you put the exact same content on your tours and in your members area and let both traffic sources vote you will find your members like different things than your surfers... You will also find most surfers/members like different photo/thumbnails/videos than the owners. Even the members before they joined will vote differently than they did once they can view the content fully.

Showing the most recent updates to a site has been the only statistical changes / advantages I have seen. You can show most popular, hottest girls, anything you want; the ratios will change with the webmasters traffic source.

But the second you start showing recent updates, ratios improve overall..
