Cannibalism Question
 

So I watched a documetary last night on HBO (it's still on HBO in demand if you want to check it out) about Cannibalism. They focused on 4 different cases of Cannibals and gave historical information as well. Among the history part was the crash of the Uraguayan Rugby team (the ones the movie "Alive" was based upon) and they were stating how the players were divided about eating the deceased because of Catholic upbringing. Being in a situation like that turns people into survivors and although you can't really say what you would do if you were in that situation until you're actually in that situation, my question is: Do you think you could eat another person to stay alive or are your morals strong enough that you would rather die than eat another human being? Me personally, I think I would lean towards survival although but I would think it would be traumatizing during and after.

I would certainly die after eating human flesh just to survive. Just the thought of it makes me sick. I don't think I can. I would certainly find another way to survive but I would not take eating another person even as a last resort.

Yes, I would be eating people in such a situation. Even if I was "morally" against it, I shall not pretend my survival instinct would not prevail.

The worst part about the rugby team was that they were in the snow covered mountains and had no fire to cook the meat. They showed pictures of them drying some of it in the sun on top of the crashed plane. Some of the players said that they were just eating it raw.

If I were in survival situation. I would probably consider if it's cooked flesh but eating it raw, well I don't know how long my stomach will rumble.

id eat someone in a heartbeat if it meant life or death. there was this tofu product out for a while called HuFu that was human flesh flavored tofu.. every time i tried to order it tho the shopping cart was messed up.. anyone else ever hear of it? they also had delicious baby seal tofu for all you canadian seal bashers..

I find it interesting to sit with a group of friends and talk about if all but you died, who would you eat first. It's always good times to figure out who would taste better and why.

Its known that during WWII, there were many cases of cannibalism among soldiers.

I've seen the movie like gazillion times, although technically raw what they ate was frozen meat - it's like chewing on a cardboard which is ten times better than eating fresh, raw, blood dripping hunam flesh

One of the 4 "featured" killers was a guy who ate his first victim during the Vietnam conflict/war. He said he took 2 vietnamese girls into the woods and tied them to trees and while he boiled one of the girls' flesh, he said he looked over and saw the other girl urinating all over herself...I'm telling you, the show was very graphic and descriptive and my stomach actually turned a few times while watching the show

i would die first before taking a bite into someone else's. I've watched a movie called Ravenous and they eat the people to survive.there's no food coming their way cause of the winter,but they've become somewhat addicted and ate the villagers. its really disgusting...eww....

I would definately grab a leg and dig in. Its just meat. If its a matter of survival and its the only source of food, I can't imagine trying to morally justify not eating it.

Yeah....for those haven't seen the show, luv$ is talking about a Japanese guy who killed his girlfriend in France because he loved her so much he wanted to know how her flesh tasted. He described her fat layer as "corn" and talked about digging beneath the corn to pull out raw meat for consumption. He is now a free man and walking the streets of Japan. Creepy looking guy.

Yeah that Issei Nagawa..I think the girl wasn't his girlfriend, she turned him down that's why he got mad. He killed her and ate her flesh. The French Government refused to cooperate that's why that cannibal was free to roam in the streets of Japan.

In a hopeless situation like that. If eating human flesh was the only way to increase the odds of survival I would be the first person to start eating raw meat. I would hope that my friends and team mates would do the same to my dead body if the roles were turned.

Hell cannibalism is a weekly ritual in the catholic church. They consume the 'body and blood' once a week.

After watching some cannibal movies, I felt very weak.. Couldn't imagine eating human flesh just to survive? I would rather choose to die first than to take a bite... It sucks!

I don't know; we can never underestimate the urge of our appetite. I just hope I won't put be on that same situation as well.

That's actually what the rugby players said they did before they ate the first person. They came into a huddle (or scrum if you will, sorry couldn't refrain from the rugby joke) and agreed that if any of them were to die, that they would want everyone else to eat them. They also used the same "body and blood" argument to the Catholic teammates to show that it was already a Catholic ritual, even if it wasn't actual human flesh.
