B-A-N-K-S-Y - Barely Legal (no, not porn)

I went to the Banksy exhibit this weekend and it was awesome. Def one of the best showings I've seen in quite a while.

The artist, who remains somewhat anonymous and never attends his own shows, conveyed some pretty powerful messages. The three day show was so popular that many of the people who made the trek to the vandalized warehouse had to be turned away.

And yes, there was an elephant in the room.

His style of renegade "art terrorism" has never been seen in the US until this past weekend. It was really a great show. And now it's gone.

They are pretty sure they know who the guy is but he stays on the DL because a good amount of his art was graffiti (I collect graffiti art, pics and canvases). I really like his style. Political and simple but complex at the same time.
:2 cents:

West Bank, Palestine 2005.

The security barrier separating the occupied territories from Israel is over 450 miles long and 38ft high. It was deemed illegal by the International Court of Justice but construction by the Israeli government continues.

The location of the exhibt was kept secret until the day of the opening when a "vague" address was listed on his UK website.

Banksy has pulled a few pranks even punking Paris Hilton.

Hundreds of Paris Hilton albums have been tampered with in the latest stunt by "guerrilla artist" Banksy.

The British artist Banksy has been criticised by officials in California for the "frivolous abuse" of an elephant which he had painted to look like pink wallpaper.

The elephant, Tai, was the main attraction at Banksy's first US exhibition, which opened last week in Los Angeles, drawing celebrities including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

Tai was painted to blend in with a set-up of a living room, and was supposed to symbolise how the problem of world poverty is ignored.

There is a book about Banksy's work available.

http://pubimages.randomhouse.co.uk/g...eb&class=books

Artistic genius, political activist, painter and decorator, mythic legend or notorious graffiti artist? The work of Banksy is unmistakable, except maybe when it?s squatting inthe Tate or New York?s Metropolitan Museum. Banksy is responsible for decorating the streets, walls, bridges and zoos of towns and cites throughout the world.

Witty and subversive, his stencils show monkeys with weapons of mass destruction, policeman with smiley faces, rats with drills and umbrellas. If you look hard enough you?ll find your own. His statements, incitements, ironies and epigrams are by turns intelligent and cheeky comments on everything from the monarchy and capitalism to the war in Iraq and farm animals.

My desktop is usually just a black background, but after seeing this pic I had to use it.

And this one for the other monitor:
