How many GFY haters out there actually go to trade shows and mouth off in person..?

I see so many brave souls trashing and threatening and being all brave here on GFY or other boards.. but how many actually go to shows, webmaster access shows..whatever and will say the same thing right to thier face. Id really like to know. It just simply amazes me the heroism that lies behind a desktop.

squishypimp 09-17-2006 03:05 PM

none i can tell you that for sure.

maybe p1mpdogg

Jarmusch 09-17-2006 03:07 PM

Keyboard warriors never meet their opponents face to face. It's the way of things.

Im always affraid that people would say things like this ^^^ when I met them - I find it all a bit sad.

Taking Internet arguments into real life is pathetic.

i think the first thing you need to do is seperate the internet from regular life, if you go around worrying about what someone said to you over the internet you are a complete loser.

RogerV 09-17-2006 10:42 PM

I try to stay out of trouble since it follows me around. but if some got in my face or disrespected me I would take care of it..

people who are full of hot air and talk a lof shit whether it is online, on the phone, on the street but then pussy out when they are standing face to face, are pathetic.

If you are not going to back up your words why even open your mouth in the first place.

will76 09-17-2006 10:54 PM

btw, i am not talking about insults, if someone is calling you a name, your wife a name, your daughter a name, your dog, etc.. and you get all bent out of shape and want to fight them, then you need a reality check in life.

I am talking about threats. If someone threatens to do something to you, then I would only assume this person would at least follow through.

What baffles me is why people draw such a distinction between what's said online and IRL - as if online reality is pure fiction and doesn't count.

Sorry, but if someone comes across as a genuine ass online, I'd generally anticipate that to be the case IRL.

Rarely have I seen a case where someone who was a jackass on the web turn out to be the opposite in person. The duality is almost impossible to sustain for any length of time.

true especially when online is where all of your business takes place. Kind of like shitting where you eat.

because there IS a difference, on the web you cannot see or hear how someone is expressing themselves.

when you are on the phone with someone and someone is trying to be sarcastiv you can pick it up, when someone online is being sarcastic some people will pick up on it and most will not.

it is alot different communicating when you can see, hear, feel someones emotions, the internet does not make that part easy at all.

for example i have been told "you are gay" about a million times over the internet from friends and colleagues, now in regular life i would hear if someone is being sarcastic, yet online it is how i percieve it, maybe he really does not like me and thinks i am gay, it would all be my judgement because there is no emotion backing up the statement.

This is somewhat true. Text is two dimensional and emotions and tone can be difficult to decipher. But a misunderstanding about emotion is quite a bit different than physical threats.

That being said, when I'm being sarcastic, I try to make it so people CAN tell that I'm just fucking around, but even then it can be mistrued.

Back to the topic...anything I've ever posted on a messageboard, I'd have absolutely no problem telling people to their face...but I'm also not one to talk shit on messageboards either. Any arguments I've had here have usually been good natured and I'd HOPE the other person thought so too. But then again I don't live for GFY drama.

i 100% agree with the threat parts, i am just kind of digging deeper then what the thread originally specified, i do not take anyones threats of anykind as a joke.

unless of course they say they are going to sue me, because most people who tell you they are going to sue you are a joke.

you are right, when i am told my mother is a whore online i can't tell the person is joking so it is ok that they say it and totally professional, because if we were on the phone I would be able to hear him laugh after he said it :Oh crap

in some rare cases when someone is trying to be funny, it could be missunderstood online. There is a reason why there are ICONS here as well. if you saying something :1orglaugh or joking with them :winkwink: there are visuals you can use to help make sure you are not missunderstood. However that is not what this thread is about. There is no missunderstanding someone online when they say they are going to put a slug in you or punch you in your jaw when they see you or they call you a pedo.
