See what the billionaires drive...

http://www.forbesautos.com/advice/to...ill_cars_promo

This is a real eye opener, guys worth billions riding modestly.
Meanwhile some guys who make $100,000 a year driving the most expensive car they can afford. Something to think about....

Solid Bob 09-16-2006 10:35 PM

A lot of rich people are weirdos. I've been to estate sales in multi million dollar homes where the bed was held up by bricks. The only reason these guys don't have expensive ass cars is that it's not something they are interested in. I doubt they have any bling on either.

It doesn't. My bed is held up by bricks right now. I also tip 3 cents no matter how much dinner costs because I'm such a thrifty bastard.

Nice article, I'm not surprised that they drive such regular cars.

notabook 09-16-2006 10:51 PM

A lot of wealthy people simply don't want people to know how much money they have. It can lead to security issues.

sharp 09-16-2006 11:30 PM

blazi 09-17-2006 12:00 AM

TexasDreams 09-17-2006 12:12 AM

Ingvar Kamprad
1993 Volvo 240 GL
Rank on Forbes.com 2006 World?s Billionaires List: 4

Vehicles Owned: 1993 Volvo 240 GL

Founder of the Swedish furniture and home goods company IKEA, Ingvar Kamprad is the proud owner of a 13-year-old Volvo 240 GL. Though he may own a Volvo, Kamprad still takes the bus and even uses his pensioners? discount card, as he explained in a rare 1999 interview.

My TL Type S is the best car I've ever had in terms of reliability and general "comfy and fun factor". :2 cents:

Edit: For those that don't know what that is, it was sub $34k.

Antonio 09-17-2006 01:37 AM

yeah, but I bet your ass that their kids drive the latest luxury models

Rock on!

Some people here can take a lesson from successful people like this -- it's not all about "showing it" and the bling. I personally believe I'd rather spend money on doing things than buying things. Just my 2 cents!

georgeyw 09-17-2006 05:12 AM

alot of those buys would have REAL status symbols :) like 200+ft yachts...:upsidedow

Boobs 09-17-2006 05:28 AM

it's how many cars they own is the question

Mr. Romance 09-17-2006 05:34 AM

Yeah different strokes for different folks..

Mr. Romance

I think it has more to do with age,and the fact that most of the people on that list get their adrenalin fix in other ways..Like crushing their competition in business.
Even so,there were a number of porsche's in that group. :)

Basic_man 09-17-2006 07:18 AM

Gates only own 2 Porsche? Wow :Oh crap

Drake 09-17-2006 07:19 AM

It might seem trivial to people who can buy anything in the world and who aren't car aficionados. They're probably representative of the general population. Some will buy expensive cars, some won't. There is no right or wrong in either, it's just personal preference.

No doubt their kids drive the best cars though.

Good point. Age is an important factor.

Klen 09-17-2006 07:22 AM

If i ever become billioner i will still buy lamborgini who doesnt cost a lot.

scottybuzz 09-17-2006 07:47 AM

if i become a billionaire , a merc is all i need, shows uve made it.

Rochard 09-17-2006 08:29 AM

What cracks me up the most is the cars parked in apartment complexes. If you can't afford to buy a house you shouldn't be buying a $60k BMW.

Back in the day a nice car used to be a status symbol. Now it's not; You can finance anything.

I've been toying with the idea of buying a Ferrari, and yes, I would have fiance the $200k car. But I just can't do it. My commute is all of five miles; I just can't justify it. I just bought me a new Mustang and before I got plates I got rear ended, and yesterday we discovered someone nailed my wife's truck. I could just imagine how I would feel if my $200k Ferrari got so much as a paint chip in it.

Nah, I'll stick to my Mustangs.

And that is good how? When they can't enjoy their life. They die with a shitload of money and had a worse life than many people with an average income. Some people think they will be young for 200 years and can start enjoying the earned money later. But there is no later.

And some people will stick to $60k cars with their 2 bedroom apartments. Doesn't make you better or them worse. Why does it cracks you up in the first place? If you are happy with how you live your life, you don't care about others. I surely don't.

Naja-ram 09-17-2006 09:09 AM

selfish people in childish boxes

Dirty Dane 09-17-2006 09:23 AM

if I were a billionaire, I would hire a driver (and a pilot)

It's simple: Looking back, I wish when I was 25 I bought a house instead of buying a car I couldn't afford. I bought my second new car which was more than I could afford where if I bought the house I could have had two room mates maying my monthly mortgage for me.

CheeseFrog 09-17-2006 09:34 AM

Funny how they didn't mention Ellison's two McLaren F1's he had (not sure if he still has them though).

But when you look back you surely have some nice memories connected with the car. ;)

Ace_luffy 09-17-2006 10:57 AM

maybe because of CC help........

citibank sucks

msan 09-17-2006 03:57 PM

That's why some Billionaires are the way they are, they keep their money instead of spending it needlessly.

cayne 09-17-2006 04:07 PM

They don't got style. It's easy as that. And besides that...these guys are all old as fuck. Of course it isn't that important what you drive, when you're 50. But I'm 22, I want a fucking Lamborghini!! :>

cayne 09-17-2006 04:09 PM

But I have to say, this is big-pimpin, by Bill Gates:

In fact, due to the 959’s questionable emissions and unknown crash ratings, it took a federal law signed by President Clinton for Bill Gates to legally drive his 959 on American roads. Rumor has it that Bill Gates and Paul Allen employed Microsoft engineers to write a computer program that could simulate the 959’s crashworthiness, which helped in the bill’s passage.

Basically the president signed your driver license...not bad! ;)

rodney25 09-17-2006 04:17 PM

Very interesting post there. Some great cars of weathly people. :)

Dagwolf 09-17-2006 04:19 PM

MetaMan 09-17-2006 04:56 PM

Amd why the fuck do we care? life is about enjoying it, if a 3 million dollar car makes you happy DO IT, these people remind me of a bunch of cheap ass jews which i bet alot of them actually are, or arab, both races are famous for being the cheapest pieces of shit on earth.
