Thoughts on domain name length - for promo purposes...
I've got a mainstream domain that i've decided to start promoting more heavily offline.
The only problem I forsee is domain name length. Currently the domain name is 17 letters without ".com". But it is descriptive of the sites theme and easily remembered (numerous people have mentioned this to me already). I'm not so worried about people remembering the domain name, i'm more worried about promotional materials. I had some stickers made up recently and they are fairly large due to the length of the domain. The site is in its infancy, but i'd like to get it right from the beginning. Then again, I could always redirect shorter domains later on down the track for promo materials. Another thing I should note about the domain is that it's not really 'brandable' - it's more descriptive / search string. Anyways, what are peoples thoughts? |
That is a little long but if its SE traffic you are after it should matter. And if its easy to remember then no problem.

My Thoughts are : needs to be easily remembered ie no doubling up of letters, combos of letters and numbers, words that are difficult to spell/pronounce. Anything else I should add here? I've come up with other domains that are alot shorter, but they just seem a little lacking :( @ Batts - I'm sure if you really wanted to find out you could quite easily. At the same time, i'll take this opportunity to ask for a truce. I apologise for anything i've said or done on gfy that has offended you.
