Holy fuck, don't do that. I switched over to the fully-modded for a month and it was unbelievable, you'd need a mainframe for the processor and memory it was chewing through. And the users went apeshit with the five billion extra options. It was horrible.

i converted all the files to php, then back to tpl when finished with my mods

Phpbb is very simple to mod and work with if you know php and .css at all.

I got it installed fine ya monkey, I just don't have time to dig through 400 options.

Some of you don't understand what he's talking about. Adding some mods to phpBB is one thing, but he's talking about Fully Modded phpBB - a phpbb installation with 441 mods pre-installed.

Its a nightmare.

phpBB still has a lot of unfixed security holes in it, and a LOT of those holes can give full access to the root server and not just have the application get crapped out. I've seen it happen more than a few times for old clients that wanted to save a few dollars, only to have their dedicated servers totally wiped out. :Oh crap

Nope, know exactly what he's talking about. Simple, basic php knowledge will get you through the installation and modifications. No nightmare there, maybe an hour or two of fiddling around, bout it.

Nobody said anything about the installation. You've obviously never tried a fully modded install with 3k users.

Sure it aint nothing complicated but modifying few hundred files by hand aint something I'd wanna do.

the next gen. phpBB should be released in the next month or two... maybe wait for it before doing any mods.

personally, i like Invsion power board. Its sexy, and its easy modding.

Next gen (v2.2) will be out soon, and theyre owrking on a fully integrated CMS to go with it

WTF would I reply stating I do know if I haven't done it actually myself?? Use your brain before you reply next time kid.

Why would you need to modify that many files?? Theming and styles were implemented for just that reason.

If a server got totally wiped out you've got waaaaaaaay bigger problems than phpbb being insecure.
