$50,000 - what would you do?

A friend of mine has $50,000 to invest and wants to flip some quick money in the adult industry.

He doesn't want to do any real work - he just wants to invest in something.

What do you think? Is there anything good he can do with the money or should I tell him to look to mainstream web stuff?

LilBro 09-13-2006 04:13 PM

we could design him a kick ass site for $50K

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 09-13-2006 04:15 PM

he can invest it into me, and ill give him 50,000 high fives

shake 09-13-2006 04:15 PM

Sounds like money that will soon be lost... sorry to say it. Tell him to DO some work, reading etc. and he might have a chance to break even, or make some money :thumbsup

Solid Bob 09-13-2006 04:16 PM

If I didn't have to spill entire business models to get someone interest I'd have the perfect thing. Ah well.

Unless they won the lottery, people that have 50k to invest don't typically make dumb decisions all of a sudden. :2 cents:

:thumbsup :thumbsup Unless they are communists, in that case they make dumb decisions all the time. :1orglaugh

$50K is probably way more money than he needs to start something small. And not much at all if he wants to start a major program.

But either not doing any real work? this is not an option:2 cents:

You can do quite a lot of hands free stuff with 50k my friend.

Herb Kornfield 09-13-2006 04:26 PM

Take 50% of that and start out smaller and let it build, leaving reserves for when its time to pull the trigger for real.

Never blow your nut all at once.

RobbieRye 09-13-2006 04:27 PM

Yeah, I hear you with the "more money then sense" sort of thing. I believe that really solid investments take a lot of hard work, research, time, and devotion.

But really, if you had $50k, is there anything specific that you'd do or should I just tell him to fuck off and ask someone else?

WiredGuy 09-13-2006 04:30 PM

I've been throwing it into 2nd mortgages with Mark, but if you have ideas, I'm all ears. Same specs, little to no work at all, passive role in the investment and up to 50k.

So you aren't opposed to offline? What kind of return are you looking for on passive investments? Gimme some details and I'll forward it to a friend that has something you'd probably like, just not sure if he's looking for additional capital or not.

martinsc 09-13-2006 04:34 PM

i'd invest it in traffic.

Yeah, I like the "hold some back" and that's smart / standard VC 101. Good sugguestion though, thanks.

WG - you're a smart guy. I'll hit you up and ask you for your advice - thanks man.

bdld 09-13-2006 05:01 PM

50k but no work, i cant think of anything. i'd say invest offline or just let it earn some interest.

Solid Bob 09-13-2006 05:04 PM

How much should a $50,000 offline passive investment return to be worthwhile?

pornpf69 09-13-2006 06:01 PM

invest on an adult entertainment school!!!

madawgz 09-13-2006 08:34 PM

um, he could invest it into eatmyshorts.com, not the whole 50 grand, but a nice portion, and have a nice steady income for 1-2 years depending on what % it is...EMS needs money for advertising and purchasing traffic from other comedy sources

icq or email me, thanks

Depends on risk vs reward. I prefer something that can be backed with security, such as property, cars, cash, receivables, etc... Something like real estate, 7% - 14% depending on a wide range of factors for example.

Right, there is definately security but it's a bit different than probably anything you've seen. I'll ask him if he's interested in extra cashflow and run it by you just for the hell of it if he is.

In Canada, if you are looking for 7 - 14% return, you should also consider Income Trusts. There are closed end trust funds in Canada that hold a basket of income trusts and they yield around 10 - 14% (at least the few I own). On top of that you have capital gains since the funds trade on the TSX and have done very well on their own in addition to the yield.

Even better, many of the funds are extremely tax efficient and a significant amount of the distributions are considered ROC (Return of Capital) so you are not going to be taxed like if it was regular dividend or income...Hell, even one I have (AOG.UN) is 100% ROC.

Robbie give your friend's money to me, we will go on one hell of a bender in Octoberfest to brainstorm up some ideas LOL!

MyNameIsNobody 09-13-2006 10:45 PM

I would've invested in some things in adult since I'm already in the biz.. although, if I didn't work in adult I wouldn't bother.. I would've just invested in some stocks..

GeorgeM 09-13-2006 11:27 PM

id buy a new car...for my wife :)

Monique Niccole 09-13-2006 11:32 PM

I'd invest in real estate...especially if he knows nothing about the adult industry.

sharp 09-13-2006 11:41 PM
