Question for CS2 Users :::

Hey gang, I just recently purchased Photoshop CS2 mainly because I wanted to learn "Camera Raw". I've noticed that this program is very sluggish and I was wondering if more RAM would help me out with this? The computer that I'm running this on is:

Pentium 4
3.2 GHz
1GB of Ram

What do ya' think?

Get a Mac.

Sorry, had to say it. Actually, right now wouldn't be the time to get a new Mac because Photoshop hasn't been optimized for the new Intel based Macs yet. But come April, when that is expected to happen, you'll want a Mac. :)

Belinda and I switched to Mac 2 years ago and are very happy we did!

You shouldn't have a program with the config you have.

Maybe you should just shut down a few programs when you decide to run CS2.

:2 cents:

cant go wrong with more ram.

Actually, CS2 is the only thing that I have running right now and it's pretty sluggish :(

PS7 runs fine with this config but CS2 just lags a bit!

I don't have probs with my latptop with 1 gig of ram and cs2

trevesty 09-13-2006 12:21 PM

I don't have any probs with CS2 on my laptop, and I only have 512mb of RAM.

Though I do have a pretty hardcore processor. :P

How much RAM do you have in your computer?

CIVMatt 09-13-2006 12:27 PM

I run 2gig of ram on my cs2 pc and I wouldnt suggest running anything less then that for what we do, you'll find it certainly helps when running batches too!

Dont listen to anyone talking about how its slow who has under 2 gig either, they should be laughed at for trying.

Works fine as well in my notebook (256MB DDR2)

Use GIMP

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 09-13-2006 12:29 PM

I have no problem on my Mac using 1.5Gb of Ram. In fact I am running Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Bridge, SonicFire Pro (music soundtrack software), Cleaner (video compression), GoLive (Adobe web site software), Quicktime, and Microsoft Word, all at once with no perceptable speed problems.

I think dual 2Ghz processors helps...

You may want to run a diagnostic test on your system.

Good luck,

Dean,
I did the upgrade from PS6 to CS2 not too long ago and still use PS6 most of the time for the very problem you have. It takes longer to open, then a few more seconds to be able to use it... sluggish all the way around. While PS6 pops open and is ready to roll.

That is the only program I have ever had a problem with.

1 gig of ram is fine if you ask me... Runs pretty smooth on mine...

I have a p4 2.8ghz and 1 gig of ram, runs just fine on my machine. When I do something else "heavy" it gets sluggish, like run uploads, fireworks and render a movie at the same time...

UPDATE: grabbed another gig of RAM (2 gigs total) and the computer seems to run much much better now. Thanks for the tips everybody!
