HDD Camcorders... Can u recommend one?
I have about $500 - $600 to spend for an HDD camcorder.
Any suggestions? |

At that price range it's gonna be very tough to do anything HD that isn't horrible. The cheapest good one I've used is the Sony HDR HC3 which is about $1200 on a decent deal. You want the shiz though, I recommend the Sony HDR FX line.

I just want to make sure what you're talking about so bear with me... Are you talking about a Hi Def camcorder or a camcorder that records directly onto an internal Hard Drive?
If you're talking about Hi Def, like stated earlier, you're probably a little short on money for a better one. If you're talking about the hard drive ones than I think there are a couple JVC ones in that price range but it's still just the one chip variety I believe. |
I have had good luck with my sony HDD camera - but it cost around $1400.

sorry... hard drive is what im lookin 4
right now i have a sony mini dv and im sick of buying tapes |
ive been looking at the specs between the JVC GZ-MG37U and the Sony DCR-SR40
One site says the Sony has 6 hours batter life, meanwhile the JVC has only an hour. WTF? The JVC comes with a remote, which is nice since the Sony does not, but Ive read some reviews at Amazon that say the video quality is crap. Im wondering if the Sony has crappy vid quality too... but I couldnt find reviews on Amazon for it that say anything other then it doesnt come with firewire. Im not ready for a high-def cam just yet, maybe next year. But i dont know if HDD cams in my current price range will all have crappy ass vid quality. If i can find one that has the same vid quality as my mini dv (dcr-hc30), then im game. I dont care at all about the still image quality tho. |
You may want to look into the firestore devices too. It hooks up to your camera through the firewire and records 3 hours of video right onto it's own hard drive and you can still record onto tape as a back up. I've got an XL2 right now and I am definitely getting sick of the tape thing as well and was checking those out. I think they go for around $700ish so that may be an option for you too...
Actually, here's a link to one on B&H and it's $650. It's out of stock now but at least you have the model number and check around some other places too... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search |
