you want to know what my problem is? i'm a developer myself, i do php/mysql. it sickens me when someone out of the blue comes in and tells everyone they'll do work for $6-8/hour.

don't name your prices. tell people you work "cheap" and let them come to you. now you've set an all-time low for work on this board, and many people will now use your bid as a baseline for what php/mysql work is priced as nowadays.

besides, the adult business has some decent money. you can probably still make $20/hour easily if you hook up with people on here personally. i myself would never pay anyone $6-8/hour for anything, unless they're making me a sub sandwich or a hamburger.

now you've told everyone you'll work for $6-8/hour and they'll hold you to it. oh well.

That's because $6-$8 per hour is probably a good wage for Moldova or other Eastern Block countries.

Good advice. I think the guy could get $15-$20 an hour and still be competetive with a lot of the Eastern European and Indian rates. It seems like he's still learning, which all of us were at one point.

Now let me make a suggestion for you, Mike. Keep charging whatever you charge for work and hire serghei to actually do all the programming. You can go sit on a beach somewhere and wait for the checks to roll in. :) j/k

this is the internet. there are no borders here. the only wage limits they're imposing on themselves are their own.

sure, in some third world countries $6-8 USD an hour is living like a king, but that is sweatshop shoe-making factories confined to local laws and local borders.

on the net everyone is on a set playing field. there isn't an excuse to use your country as a reason to charge poor rates; that is of course, unless your country has some sort of stupid income ceiling or some shit.

Moldova is a small ex-USSR country ... it's green .. but a little be HOT ;) .. it's about 40 C right now

don't get me wrong, it's fine to tell people your info and offer services. but please, do it in a respectful manner and don't be quick to shout out a sub-par rate. you can make a lot more than that here, if you behave and play your cards right.

I usually was looking for an employer via emails.

there's a lot of quick script work, installation help and other things that people need from time to time on this board. but don't think that you can come here and instantly pick up work.

help people out in threads, learn "who's who" and help some people out with coding, even if it's for free. eventually you'll build up a list of people who need work, and you'll be booked.

but don't think that just because you say "i'll work or beans" means people will instantly use you. they don't even know who you are yet, and a lot of people here want to work with someone they know and trust.

have you looked at sites like elance.com? i know there's others, but i forget them. i'm sure you have.
