Hmmm looks like he dropped off the face of the Earth after getting that great advice to 'flash' his bios instead of resetting his cmos HD setting to Auto DH. :Graucho

Hrmm.. based on his description, it was the right thing to do.. maybe I should have explained the risk involved, but I'm pretty sure the bios update utility would be littered with warnings.

A flash might have been needed but no one mentioned to check the cmos to make sure it was set to autodetect or to the setting that compaq uses for that... Factory builts used to be notorious for being set to the exact HD that was installed in the thousands of systems they threw together on that assembly line. :winkwink:

Hence the check the cmos FIRST then check the other options such as the manufacturers site to see if the board / chip / bios is even capable to see the drive with or without flashing. We had quite a few customers bring systems to us that had flashed and boom! Dead chip from a mistake etc.
