I want to get a dog - Husky/Collie
She's adorale firstly. I'm just trying to think up different situations where it may be a problem. I do know how to take care of dogs and such, and since it's a mix with Collie, she'd be smarted, and wouldn't be good to let her get bored.
What are some problems you people have found with your dogs or pets, and how have you solved them? Any commentary would be appreciated - except "buy her and cook her!" or "make doggie porn!" ... I won't appreciate those at all. Cheers, Matt |
potty training...and running away
|
Backyard for potty training, and I would have her on a leash when outside (at least initially for first year or two.. or in backyard, or on a leash in backyard. Always will watch her.. or have leash..
Convincing my family is the hardest part so far. It's amazing how low family will go and bash you to try to discourage you. Cheers, Matt |
You'd look up for K-9 schools in your area and go there with her, teach her at least the basics, easier to have a dog if she's well manered with everyone, specially when the family is bitching...

northern breed dogs (husky, malamute, etc) are notiorious for doing things their way, and
not always your way. I've owned several over the last 10 years, and they are the greatest dogs(in my opinion) that you can get. husky/collie mix will be a lot of fun, and something of a chore. really depends on how diluted the blood is between the 2(if you know what i mean). shit, i wasn't gonna do this but.... i moved to oklahoma city in '94, we had an alaskan malamute puppy, and a rot-dobie mix puppy. My gf's parents said we could keep them at the house, they'd freak out their dog. ok, no biggie, we'll put her up at this guy's house i know, he's a friend of a good friend from omaha. so we took them up to this guy's house, i'd called ahead, he was working and said to go ahead and drop them off in the back yard with his dobie. no prob, we left the dogs and $200 to cover food for a couple months, as we wouildn't be able to get up to enid often. went up the first part of june, and they were fine, dropped off some more food. well, i got my own place in okc, down off 16th and penn, wasn't a great part of town, but wasn't terrible, and at $235 a month for a duplex, who's gonna bitch? so july 4th we went up to get the dogs, had left a message for the guy(we'd still not met him at this point, just played phone tag) we get there, walk around back and amy(the gf at the time) says "something's wrong with tasha, she's not coming over" sure enough, tasha the malamute is dead, farly, the rot-dobie looks like skin with some bones throw in, and the guy's red dobie looks the same. I jumped the fence and looked around, all the bags of food we'd bought for them were still there, sealed. there were mosquitoes living in the water the guy had put out(who knows how long ago). And my dog was dead. i flipped out, and i'm not ashamed to say it, i pounded and kicked that fucking door for 15 minutes, this fat guy finally opens it, in his wife beater and shorts. amy's screaming at him, and his tokin' on his glass pipe. jesus. fine. walked out, slammed the door, grabbed my dead and partially living dogs, and headed out to the nearest animal control. they took a look at tasha, malnourished and dehydrated, same with farly. they called the cops, they followed us back to the guy's house, and arrested him on the spot(after kidking the door in). possesion of controlled substance, cruelty to animals, neglect, etc, etc. so he went to jail, couldn't afford bail, and the county and city threw the book at him so hard he choked. his property was seized, all of his animals went to no kill shelters(he had horses, cats, the red dobie, chickens, etc). we nursed farly back to health, then gave him away when we had to move from our place in denver. why did i just write that? not like anyone cares....point being, if you own a dog or any other animal, fucking take care of it. |

I love dogs and have only 4 in my life.
1st one was a Springe Spaniel and my parents gave it away as I discovered one day when I came home from school. We where moving and couldn't take him with us..... was pissed at the parents for quite some time 2nd dog was a dingo/red heeler cross. Great dog, used to love running....ran everywhere....even used to keep up with my hubby on his trail bike, ended up having to have him put down because he (the dog not the hubby) went ferrel and started killing kangaroos and attacking cattle....ranger paid us a visit and showed us a bullet and said that if we didn't cage the dog this is what would happen.....we couldn't cage him.....he was a free spirit, so we did what we thought was best, we had him put to sleep.....broke my husbands heart....he ended up burying him high on a hill where he could over look his domain. 3rd dog was a german sheppard cross..... his name was Walter (don't laugh) it suited him.....lol. He was the best dog. He let our then very young kids sit on him, ride him, pull his tail and never ever not once did he show any anger towards my kids or any other child. He was my pride and joy. Then at the age of 14 I made the saddest dicision I have ever had to make. He had been getting sick and aging quickly over the last few months of his life. He became incontinent, but I for a month decided I would clean up after him rather than having him put to sleep....but one sunday I came home and found him laying in his business not being able to move.....and he looked up at me with those very sad eyes and said it's time......I also knew that it was time....I spent the next 12 hours cuddling and loving my dog and giving him all the treats he usually wasn't allowed. Monday morning I took my beloved dog of 14 years to the vet and had him put to sleep while I held him tight. To this day there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him... I never thought I'd have another dog after him....but 6 months later dog #4 was a dog advertised in the paper as free to good home. When we arrived we realised this dog had been abused. No hestitation....the kids loved her immediately and she loved the kids. We took her home and for a few months she was very weiry of all loud noises and fast movements. She is now a very devoted dog to our family and is a great protector. I know the day will come when I will be heart broken again with her death....but I'm not thinking about that now....still have at least 8-10 before that. I would never ever be without a dog.....they are great company and give so much love without asking for anything in return. I must apologise for my rave on. http://fallendomains.com 40,000+ expired names daily plus a TON more. |
I saw this guy walking around the beach with A PUG, the same dog as in Men In Black 2..... I swear to god, so many chicks were running up to him to see his dog, it was unbelieveable

Just make sure you have enough time to get her/him exercised, and plenty of time and attention are needed in order to keep yer mutt happy. My doggy is happy. :)
