I feel so guilty.
 

I have been going up the street to the Nursing home and helping look after my friends mom, I went up early on Friday and she was a mess. I call all 6 of her kids and got one to come up there. I told them and the nurses that something was wrong with her, she's 79 and has Alzheimer's.

Well I finally get the nurse to tell me she had fallen at 7 AM. By the time I hear this poor old Viola has been in so much pain it's a sin. So come to find out at 5 pm she had broken her hip and they finally take her to the hospital. I feel so bad I didn't make them take her in the AM when I knew something was wrong.

I don't know about you but my experience is when people that old break there hip the end up dieing. I just wish I had made them go to the hospital soon and I hadn't let those horrible nurses pick her up and fling her into the wheelchair so she could use the bathroom.

She has 3 screws in her hip now, I just hope she doesn't go back to that home.

We put my grandmother in a home last year after she had come out of the hospital. We ended up removing her from there a month later. The nurses treated them like babies, gave them time out. They would make all of them come to their meals in the cafeteria in a wheel chair, even if they could walk. I remember when she left, she stood up from her wheelchair and one old woman freaked out and went "SHE'S WALKING" like she saw a miracle. :1orglaugh I don't trust most retirement homes now. :disgust

Sounds like you did a lot. Sounds like the nursing home sucks and is negligent!

You're doing more than most people just by helping and being there. Don't worry about this, it's a mistake anyone could make. You're not a doctor, so you don't know when something is broken. The nurses should've been more attentive, considering it's their job to be there and I'm sure they've seen more than one broken hip in their lives.

As for the broken hip.. Some doctors say that it isn't
the fall that breaks the hip bone, it's the hip bone breaking that causes the fall..

And I've seen, as you, that once that happens things seem to go downhill from there..

It is not your fault! The damm nurse should have had her checked out after the fall! they treat those people like shit in those places!:mad: I watched my grandmother go through that.

don't feel guilty. without you caring more than her own children to visit her she might not of ever got the care she needed.

I know the feeling.. when my granny was alive.. she was in a nursing home for a few years at the end..

That is EXACTLY the reason we just bought my mom a small house.. she will never be in a nursing home.. I will take care of her myself until she passes away for damn sure!

You should't be guilty. Calm down. You did all you could as i understood, then why you feel guilty.
If you wouldn't pay attention on her, then you would be guilty, but not after what you did for her.
