Europeans, do you consider a body temperature of 37.2 or 37.3 C normal?

wikipedia says

Measurement
When a patient has or is suspected of having a fever, that person's body temperature is measured using a thermometer. At a first glance, fever is present if:

- axillar temperature (in the armpit) is at, or higher than 37.2 degrees Celsius (99 degrees Fahrenheit)
and that's been always my experience before. But now I'm talking with somone ( a Dutch medicine student ) and he tries to convince me that 37.3 not only isn't fever but IS completely normal

do you agree?

EDIT: I know this thread may seem the most useless of the day but it's just a theoretical discussion :upsidedow

you have to add about a degree when measuring the temp in the armpit.
your body temp should be around 37 degrees. if you are more than a degree above or below that, you have a fever

37.3 degrees celsius is by no means normal.. the guy must have a fever if he's tryin' to convince you about that.

I wouldn't start to worry until it hits 38°C. I think you can live up to 41°C... or at least most people will survive up to that point.

martinsc 09-09-2006 06:00 AM

everything up to 38 is fine...

QTbucks_Mark 09-09-2006 06:10 AM

It's a little higher than it should be IMHO, but I wouldn't call it fever.

Buzz 09-09-2006 07:49 AM

I would have probably tried to break a jaw of a doctor saying 37.3 is normal :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

u-Bob 09-09-2006 08:04 AM

+- 37 degrees celsius = 100% normal.

Everything above 37 degrees means that there's probably some kind of infection in your body.

Of course, that's true only if you keep that temperature for like a few hours.

A one-time measurement means really nothing.

BUT, if you have it for a few days, go see another doctor.

In the armpit, it should be 36.6. I was born in Moldova and my parents still have celcius thermometers. :)

Violetta 09-09-2006 08:52 AM

38 and above is fever for me
