ServerGenius 06-22-2002 09:36 AM

Ultra Edit...all the way.....All those shitty What you see is NOT
what you get editors suck...Half the code that ends up in the
source is total bullshit...if you try to use javascript or anything
alike it even gets a LOT worse...

http://www.ultraedit.com
If you know how write HTML without those bullshit editors than
take my word for it and stick to text editors!

I use notepad 98% of the time..
I use DreamWeaver just when I want to replace a link in all pages

jimmyf 06-22-2002 09:40 AM

I use dreamweaver very seldom... Am in the dark ages with Claris Home page...

I have 3 other editors, use them for awhile and go back to Claris.
For the simple pages I do it's just fine.. But it is shit with memory
fuck's with it or fuck's it up I should say, if your editing like 30 or more htm's.

I must have looked at 10+ editors..

And I forgot the learning curve for Claris is like 3rd grade..:thumbsup and am a 5th grade drop out

Disil 06-22-2002 09:48 AM

How's Dreamweaver MX better than Dreamweaver 4? I havent upgraded yet. Is it worth it?

mike503 06-22-2002 01:51 PM

notepad.

toddler 06-22-2002 02:35 PM

/bin/vi

or vim with syntax on

sometimes bbedit(which rules for everything)

lately i've been playing around with golive 6, which is a total beast.

i've tried homesite and dreamweaver,
and have never really liked them. all of the
'gui' editors tend to insert WAY to much
extra code for my liking, golive included....

I can't believe nobody mentioned TextPad! My ultimate favorite, have been using it for about 3-4 years now. It's installed on every computer I've ever owned, and then some. Check it out at www.textpad.com .

LoveAsianChicks 06-22-2002 03:08 PM

I use a basic program with no features.
Open up a blank sheet & start adding code.

Dreamweaver still has a lot of coding bugs, use it heavily and they will soon appear.

AcidMax 06-22-2002 03:57 PM

UltraEdit and Adobe GoLive.

Between the two I do everything (PHP, HTML, Javascript etc).

bawdy 06-22-2002 04:04 PM

i use dreamweaver for the speed to build a page... then tweak as needed in its own text editor

for javascript, asp, php, coldfusion etc i use ultraedit because of the syntax highlighting.... ultraedit rocks (my last text editor was vi)

SpyCam 06-22-2002 04:37 PM

i use a mixture of dreamweaver and ultraedit32

D_Nell 06-22-2002 05:32 PM

Its amazing how many people said Dreamweaver. Its obvious who the true programmers in here are. I use to work at AltaVista back about 3 years ago. We went through serious pros and cons of Frontpage Vs. Dreamweaver. We found that they both suck when it came time to adding components they offer. Frontpage has stupid webbots and Dreamweaver just writes fucked code. We found that if stick to basic table structure in Frontpage 2000 it seems to keep consistent code as if you were handcoding it. Dreamweaver is just fucked. Programmers who were ANTI Microsoft in the company actually felt Development time decreased with the use of Frontpage. So since it helped them in the long run as they were always waiting for the HTML templates they supported Frontpage 2000.
So my advice is use Frontpage 2000. Solid program that works if you stick to the basics.

If for some reason you have Frontpage 98 throw it away. It is Dreamweaver on the code. SHITTY!:thumbsup

nuclei 06-22-2002 06:41 PM

if your working in a windows system, ultraedit is about the best, otherwise use vi =)

CC 06-23-2002 01:45 AM

Notepad all the way for me. Even if you DO use a program like Dreamweaver, you really should know HTML as well.
