My Toshiba Satellite Laptop crapped out on me

Has anyone had any problems with their toshibas cutting off?

I didn't even have that toshiba a full year and it crapped out...It turned on like usual this morning...and all of a sudden it cut off and that was it...I don't know if it's the computer or the cord that was faulty cause when you plug in the cord, the laptop doesn't have the lights on that indicates that it's charging...

I didn't smell any kind of smoke and the computer was off all night until I turned it on this morning. I hope to God that the dude can fix it...He said It will take up to three days if he has to open it up.

Thank God Puerto Rico has computer repair shops in abundance...If I was in a third world country like Jamaica, I'd be FUCKED right now...something to think about definitely.

I'm glad that I brought the old dusty sony vaio laptop with me down here..I almost didn't do it.

No problems with mine yet. Which model... and did you check their site for any kind of recall?

notabook 09-05-2006 06:54 AM

No problems with any sat yet other than their screens (their screens are slightly lower quality than I would have liked).

Is it still under warranty?

justsexxx 09-05-2006 06:55 AM

Apple is my choice for laptops

disconnect the power, pull the battery out, reconnect the power with the battery out, turn it on and see if that works.

Mega problems with my old mans although a lot of it was covered out of warranty because it was maufacturing related.

By the time it was over practially every part of the machine was replaced... mobo... hdd... the lot.

Long story short - give Toshi a call.

Dude I went though two Toshiba's in a year. They are ass. Get an HP Pavilion. They rock!

I have a toshiba satellite m105-s3021 and it works great for me never had a problem with it. I love it it's light, fast and has a shit load of memory space :thumbsup . As for your situation you might want to check out your OS and check your config on the windows hiebernating features. True this sounds like a dumbass thing to say, but mine was configured really wierd, and it used to just turn off on me for no apparent reason till I figured out what was wrong with it. You may have a simalar setup:2 cents:

Why do you have this need to bring up how much better Puerto Rico is than "some 3rd world country" (you name a different one every time...)?

Welcome to the new quality of Toshiba.

The last Toshiba laptop I bought (and I mean last) crapped out before the first year.

I used to like the quality of Toshiba - my Satellite 440 CD from 1997 still works.

Looks like we have to retrain our branding awarenesses.

I have a Satellite and although it can be alittle picky, it's been good to me. They really don't like being put into hybernation from losign battery, and just opening and lcosing it a lot without shutting down tends to really muck things up after a bit. Make sure it's not overheating, I notice they tend to run a little hot and don't have that great of venting.

go to MAC you'll never go back

SmokeyTheBear 09-05-2006 08:48 AM

i have a toshiba satellite it has been running for over 2 years no problems.. for the last year its been running almost 75% straight

shake 09-05-2006 09:39 AM

I've going through 4 satellites, and 2 tecras... no more toshibas for me.
(some of those were warrenty replacements, I didn't buy that many)

All different models over the last 4 years - all had the same problem. I'd be typing away, plugged into AC power, and they would shut down/power off. No fun at all! :helpme

YOU mean it pulled a nigga, you payed it upfront and it stopped working before the job was done.

I bought my daughter a Toshiba Satellite R20 tablet PC a little over a year ago and the only thing that I have done is replace the power cord adapter this past weekend. Other than that it has workd perfectly.

First I went to my local computer shop to make sure it was the cord and not the battery. My daughter called and reported it to Toshiba and got a case number just before the one year manufacturer's warranty expired last month so I should be able to get reimbursed for the cost of the new cord.

I have a Satellite M65 and it works like a charm. Been going strong for almost a year.

teg0 09-05-2006 11:10 AM

I had the same thing happen to me when i was living in Puerto Rico. They said the humidity really fucks laptops up, especially if you're outside on balcony and go into the AC with it often enough. Condensation I guess. The guy could have been full of shit though.

BVF 09-05-2006 03:41 PM

Seems that the problem wasn't with the laptop...some malicious software attempted to destroy my comp. Luckily it didn't work....I guess there's no more Limewire and torrents on my main laptop.
