Help - Creating a Slideshow on DVD

My oldest has about 900 pics from his trip to Alaska this summer. What he wants to do is have them on a dvd that will play on a dvd player, not just on the computer.

He wants it set up as a slideshow, and the ability to add music to play as the pictures view.

He's tried a couple of things, and they haven't worked like he wanted. So I've got a gripey manchild on my hands.

Anyone have suggestions on what program he could use to create this?

Most video editing programs will allow you to include a still photo as a "scene" for X seconds. Are you using 'doze or a Mac? If it's a recent OS (XP/OSX) then I think both have some basic video editing capabilities included...

BTW bear in mind that for still photos the resolution of a DVD/SDTV is fairly poor, so if it's going to be viewed on a PC it may be better to find a program that creates a proprietary slideshow executable.

He wants to make it viewable on a dvd player. Should he change the format of the jpg's to something else for better quality on the dvd?
