Thats what theyve always said, stingrays are friendly and you can swim up and pet them. They only sting you if you step on them.

Yes, Its a very rare occurence that someone will die from a stingray. Only 3 people died around the waters of Australia in History. The last person before Steve to die from a stingray was in the 1930's in Australia. You could say he was very unlucky, it was is destiny:( R.I.P Steve!
