Foreign domains. Are they worth it?
What if you could get sex.de? Or sex.es? Are they worth anything? Could they be developed and be somewhat profitable?
What's the general rule in the adult business regarding foreign and other domains like .net, .org, .info, .us? |
Sex.de is actually a very popular domain in germany, and I bet sex.es is popular in spain.. those domains are usually already taken like the .com ones. I don't see a reason why they should be different to .com domains besides the fact that you would get no "domain guessers" traffic (but that works only on very few and simple terms anyway). It's all about promoting your site..

Good advice mergrogh, yup just because its not a .com doesnt mean countrys belonging to the domain wont use it!
|
Well, what about offering content in a language different from that domain's country?
|
What languages are you using? And what type of content are you targeting? Most of these surfers are looking for little text, lots of pics/movies. This will help you keep your wording short and to the point. However, if you have a 'stories' domain/section, those can be purchased.
I suggest you enlist the help of native speakers. PM if you want. |
Well, I'm a native spanish speaker, but I don't want to target spanish speaking people. For example, I get the feeling that if I do a TGP in something like tits.com.uy is not going to convert since Uruguay is a small country and not many people spend money on porn anyway.
I'm mostly interested in the domain, not the 'native' crowd it would attract. I don't know if this has been done or not, but it's a question a I ask myself. |
I own some country domains on mainstream sites, along with the TLD; for example I have tlddomain.com & also tlddomain.com.mx I only renew the ones that really catch visitors, for example I get a lot of Mexican traffic, so the .com.mx is useful.

.jp (Japan) is a wonderful way to go - huge internet population and a love of adult sites.
.ru (Russia) also does well for adult sites. Same with .de (Germany) but the population is smaller. Remember to use a domain name that is in that country's language. .com is still king, so you cannot go wrong with .com sites in any language. |
