Notice when he's "shuffling" through the cards "say stop here". he's pulling from the TOP of the deck, which means the card on the BOTTOM of the deck (a blue card) stays in position each time "called a false top shuffle". This means when half of the deck is dropped on top of the chosen card, the blue card will be directly ABOVE it.

Now notice when he flipps over the blue card, he does what's called a "double lift", lifting up the blue backed card, plus the chosen card which is below it, at the same time, making it appear that the chosen card is indeed the blue backed card.

:thumbsup

How do you explain the second part though?

Mitch

wow neat trick thanks for sharing!

Scott McD 09-02-2006 10:59 AM

I can never even spread the cards out the way they do at the start in all those card tricks.

Never works for me...

Sure, same thing. Remember, the blue card was the 5 of spades the entire time (remember the double lift i talked about above?).

So, you already have the blue backed 5 of spades sitting there on the table, all you have to do is "force" the spectator to pick the existing 5 of spades that's in the deck.

Watch as he shuffles through the cards again, he's doing the same exact shuffle he did before, pulling cards from the top, the card that's on the bottom of the deck stays in position the entire time, which is the card that you want to "force" the spectator to choose, the 5 of spades.

He shuffles, He says stop, and after pulling cards from the top of the deck the entire time, he shows you the stationary 5 of spades that was on the bottom of the deck........

If you was to see an AMAZING version of that performed by a true master of the art, search for a magician by the name of "bill malone".

He's absolutely incredible with a deck of cards, and I attended several lectures by him in the past. He has invented many of the slight of hand techniques used by magicians around the world.

That's a simple fan, and the trick is to use a brand new deck of cards. Virtually all magicians use "bicycle brand" because of the coating on them.

I use to go through 60 decks a month when I was actively practicing / competing.

Cards that are used more than a few times start to get dust and grit between them, and the coating on them starts to wear, and many flourishes become impossible/difficult to do.

The technique's used to do "fan productions". Reaching into the air and pulling a full fan of cards out of nowhere.

Most people don't spend the time to master the technique though as that takes a lot more practice, and stop after getting 1 card down pat.

Wow, nicely done!
