A teacher in a class I took once told us about this student he had that used to work for a cigarette manufacturer. He said the student told him they had developed a 100% safe cigarette, and it tasted just like the real thing.

Supposedly (keep in mind this is all second hand) the student brought in a whole carton of these soon after. The teacher told us he was able to talk this student into opening the carton up for the class to see (he didn't want to at first due to it possibly being a collectors item), and it was in fact for real.

There's no reason why this teacher would lie about this story. He wasn't that type.

I'm sure they never released them because of the lawsuits. If you come out with something marketed as "safer", then you are admitting that the old product wasn't.

At the very least buy the tobacco and roll the shit yourself -- if you can't be bothered to roll the cigarette then you are smoking too much anyway. My buddy buys this stuff called "TOP" -- at the corner store it's $1.50 and it comes with papers too! He says besides the expensive French shit -- TOP is the best.

I read a lot about how Tobacco is made -- pretty much growing the shit is the easy part -- drying the leaves is very complicated and requires a lot of complex climate control -- I think w/ good tobacco it takes many tedious months (year?) for the leaves to age/dry properly -- and you have to make sure the shit doesn't get moldy, etc... The big cigarette companies use nasty chemicals to accelerate this drying process -- at least that is my understanding.
