I've been debating relocating to costa rica for a while. I'm looking to better my spanish if/when i do move down there. Right now I know very very very very basic spanish (small conversational phrases). I'm completly bi-lingual speaking french and I can read/write latin, so i believe i'll pick it up quick. Obviously the best way to learn a new language is to immerse yourself in it and be forced to speak it, but i'm looking to improve my spanish before i go. What's your favorite method for learning a new language?
Best way to learn spanish?

I've taken courses and it helps, but I never could really pick it up.
Just go there and having to pick it up they say is the best way like you said, but Spanish speakers are generally happy just when you attempt the language.Last edited by kristin; 09-01-2006, 12:57 PM.Comment

Rosetta stone is not al that good
you'll spend a lot of time learnign words you wont use
u need to learn good conversational spanish.
IN fact in any latin based language there are only 600-800 words in a persons ACTIVE vocabulary. So a lot of thee study programs teach very redundant words.
Im currently learnign spanish using
Michel Thomas's Learn Spanish CD's (which i downloaded in mp3 off bearshare)
its the best system (yes i have tried all the big names like rosetta stone and pimsler and couldnt learn shit)
my spanish is pretty good from just a few hours with these mp3's. I get practice by speakign/writing to native spanish speakers.
btw
IM also looking to locate to costa rica soonComment

You go to a mexican bar, drink two bottles of tequila and start a fight. You'll wake up two months after that in a military prison's hospital where some guy in a general's uniform will ask you what the fuck you have been doing with his daughter and you will probably have lost a tooth or two. But you'll speak Spanish like a native.Comment
