Hosting Question ... How much Power..
How much power amps should a hosting company provide, if they give you a full rack?
|
full rack? usally *should* include in 20amps. common per amp pricing is 14-16/amp. And thats usally their cost to the datacenter $320/20amps
depends where the datacenter is located some places are more expensive than others... |
What kinda of servers that can run on that little of amps?
I am talking a full rack with ability to have around 30-32 1u servers. Rest of the space is in Switches etc. |

What specs are these 1U servers?
Breakers are set at 80% on a circuit - on a 20A circuit, you will have 16Amps useable power. The specs of the servers will depend on how much each uses. Normal full rack comes with 20A, with ability to add up to 40A. Most places won't go over 40A because of heat load per sq ft issues. |
depending on how much you need and how much there is available seen power limits in DCs these days
|
Alot of our racks have 4-20amp circuits since we populate the crap out of the racks. Most hosts give either 1 - 15 amp or 1- 20 amp power circuit with options to purchase more for $300 - $350 each a month.
You never want to go over 16 amps draw on a 20 amp circuit (75% draw), what kind of servers are they? I run ibm dual xeons that draw 1.5 amp per server and the p4 and amd boxes draw .75 of a amp or less. Good rule of thumb is 1 amp draw per server unless its has lots of disks. |
