MTV video awards. WTF!!!

I havent watched these in years, but why are they called video awards, when they just give the awards to the people with popular songs rather than the good videos. Best male video just went to James Blunt, and if I remember correctly, his whole video is one shot of him singing in the rain and getting undressed. That's it.
