.NET or not to .NET that is the question

So in this day and age can someone run a site that's a .NET and brand it successfully? Or would you be taking crazy pills to try?

born4porn 08-31-2006 01:16 PM

I am going to give it a try! :thumbsup

squishypimp 08-31-2006 01:18 PM

depends on what type of a site you run and if you are marketing through word of mouth. if you are a tgp and your traffic comes from trades then you dont need anything more than a dot net.

ajrocks 08-31-2006 01:19 PM

What would you say if it was an affiliate program or an regular paysite?

BlackCrayon 08-31-2006 01:22 PM

unless its a good name, i wouldn't. but thats just me. i've never bought an adult.net. i got a couple non adult ones but i also own the .coms. no one is gonna type in .net or when they think of your site, will they remember its .net or just type in the .com?

Manowar 08-31-2006 01:48 PM

CamContacts.net did a good job

fris 08-31-2006 01:50 PM

free site? or paysite? any free site can be any domain name and do well. for a paysite i would predict .com only

Manowar 08-31-2006 01:50 PM

until they got their domain taken away

Hooligan 08-31-2006 01:54 PM

better stick to .coms

collegeboobies 08-31-2006 02:06 PM

the gambling sites advertise .net with good results

High Plains Drifter 08-31-2006 02:10 PM

Personally, I've had good experience with .NET even though I was a Java guy for many years. The CLR has been stable and the C# is a breeze to write with a Java background. My only complaint is that you can't rely on the garbage-collection, even though not having to deal with memory management is one of the selling points of the managed code and all high level languages.

yes but i think they do this knowing that most people will type in the .com instead of the .net. check out the difference between the two. you'll see why they do this.

DaddyHalbucks 08-31-2006 02:16 PM

Crazy pills.

You will lose approx. 25% of your traffic to the .COM.

bdld 08-31-2006 02:27 PM

i surely wouldnt do it. if youre doing it for other reasons other than branding, then sure why not. i got my 115th domain yesterday, a .net one for 2.99 at registerfly. promo code netspecial

Yep, PartyPoker does a good job with this ...

The only reason to really register a .net in my opinion is if you are going to use it along side the .com.

free4porn 08-31-2006 02:41 PM

i would go for .com if you can :)

BradM 08-31-2006 02:53 PM

Avoid the .net. You will never hear the end of it if you go with a .net over a .com

No one ever types "firstthingthatcomestomind.net"

Dwreck 08-31-2006 02:56 PM

tottaly off topic BUT needs to be said.

That's not funny dude. They're talking about domain names.

ajrocks 09-01-2006 06:31 AM

would you send traffic to a program with a .NET name?
