HDTV who's got one?

I just bought a 32" Sony and it fucking rocks

The only thing I dont like is some of my local channels (CBS and NBC) have that annoying bar on each side of the screen croping the video size

So what do other HDTV owners think?

Is it worth the money?

squishypimp 08-31-2006 09:14 AM

ive got an HDTV, its great :)

venus 08-31-2006 09:32 AM

I have one, yo can get rid of that bar by going into the menu and telling the TV to use the 16:9 screen, or something like that...

andrej_NDC 08-31-2006 09:33 AM

I'm getting mine in 2 weeks, can't wait. PS3 will rock on it. :)

Who doesn't have HD these days? TVs are so cheap these days. During football HD is a requirement.

Football is AMAZING in HD

everything is so crisp and clear

BUT I wouldnt say they are so cheap

still over $1k for a decent unit.

They have come down in price though. I got mine for 500.00 less then my buddy did 3 weeks after he bought the same exact tv

Yes. I must say buying less than 1920x1080 is not a smart idea, because the new movieformats, like blu-ray, will be in 1920x1080. And buying it without HDMI is stupid !

I was talking about purchase price

Cant get a decent HD here for less then about $1200.00

Thats about what i paid for mine

sharp 08-31-2006 10:10 AM

I have a 37" LCD HDTV and I love it. It sucks for video game,s though.

Sly 08-31-2006 10:11 AM

I have 2. So yes, I like. :-)

The bar is because most shows were shot in 3:4. It annoys my roommate too so he sets the mode to Fill.

I have to pay 2k for a 40'' LCD, 1366x768, and I got a great price for it, since it costs more in shops.

I'm notoriously cheap on everything except my TV...61 inch Toshiba LCD HDTV and couldn't live without it...I have it tweaked out just right for picture, sound, etc. and luckily all our local channels broadcast in HD, so I watch the HD channels.

Forest, your TV should have a way of adjusting the picture size. I know mine has 6 different settings/aspect sizes.

Wagerboy 08-31-2006 10:32 AM

I know on mine, the dig cable box controls those lines. Try hitting the # sign on the remote, it should go through normal, stretch, zoom 1 and zoom 2...Stretch is what you are looking for. Hope it works for ya...

I have HDTV, but here in Holland we only have like 3 HD channels. 1 movie channel, National Georapic, and NLHD1 (which broadcasts the same programs all the time) so its' pretty useless here :(
Lots of our programs are not even widescreen yet hahah we are WAY behind in NL witht that kind of stuff

I got two of em :) 65" and a 46" love em both. Have them both on DirecTV HD also. Wait until Jan/Feb when they will be released alot more HD channels!

Am I the only one who thinks the bars are good and that the stretched version looks rediculous? If it wasn't meant for widescreen, people look short and fat.

StanRu 08-31-2006 12:26 PM

LyngSat HD
all HD sat channels..

arial 08-31-2006 12:30 PM

My 62'' 1080p DLP will be here next week. I can't fucking wait, my eyes will be burning HD soon.

shake 08-31-2006 01:16 PM

I can't be bothered to pay the extra monthly fee from my cable company for HDTV - $20 / month - no thanks!

Thats weird, because I heard mostly the exact opposite. Since xbox360 is in HD, it should look great on HD TVs. And that was what I heard.

effer 08-31-2006 01:32 PM

Most HD TV channels are highly compressed, so yea, you get the high res picture but plenty of artifacts as well. Sports is worst for this! HD is still beautiful to watch on a big screen tho, but the best experience will be from HD-DVD/bluray discs that dont have to crunch the bitrate to shit.

Juilan 08-31-2006 02:25 PM

yes it's all worth it

flashfire 08-31-2006 03:52 PM

if its actually an hd show there will be no bars...HD channels arnt HD all the time

free4porn 08-31-2006 04:57 PM

I'll get one soon, but wait for them to come down in price 1st

Vitasoy 08-31-2006 07:50 PM

Had mine for god knows when.. but it rocks

Sandee_Westgate 08-31-2006 09:09 PM
